King George VI quote[edit]

I'm looking for a reliable source for the King George VI quote. While I believe it to be largely true, I have heard multiple version of it over the years and have not yet found anything I would consider to be an authoritative source.

This article, from March 2006, predates not only the inclusion of the quote in this page but also the page itself - but it has the quote as "Bloody beautiful; too bloody expensive."

I'll continue to be on the lookout for a source. Samuel Whittemore (talk) 17:38, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Prices[edit]

Boss & Co only build best quality guns only. The price of a rifle is £135,000, the shotguns start at £60,000, and the o/u start at £79,000. All their guns are one grade only, the best, no add ons except for fancier engraving but the well known Boss Rose & Scroll comes as standard.

As Boss were the pioneers for the single trigger O/U's, it can be said that this is the most sought after O/U shotgun compared to Holland & Holland and J Purdey.

If given the choice of ordering a bespoke gun, I would go for Boss who only make to order, whereas Holland and Purdey have new guns on the shelf for sale.

Boss & Co 1961-1964[edit]

My name is Bob Lusted and I left school at age 15 and worked for Boss & Co when they had just moved into Cork St.I started off as a trainee Gunmaker but finished up in charge of cartrige loading,(27 1/2 gns ICI Nobel No 2 No 6 shot etc). The factory was near southwark bridge, where I sometimes had to deliver to. Staff members names I can rember are: Arthur Sanderson. Manager. Fred Smith, Secretary. Bill Harris, shop front assistant. Charles Austin Metal Finisher & Polisher. Sid? Wood Finisher. Jack Rennie. Director. (Robertson Family?). I enjoyed the working there but the money was poor and so I moved on and finished in up Australia. I've just rembered. Ted the Porter who made the tea and ran errands etc. Could've been "Alf Garnets" brother. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.186.68.248 (talk) 17:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
