Article Creation[edit]

A major problem in creating this article (and expanding it in the future) is the fact that the Big Twelve Conference does not appear to have a website of its own, nor IHSA website or those of individual conference schools have much information about it as well. As a result, adding information such as history and the like might be difficult going forward for future contributors, but I believed that the subject was noteworthy enough as other IHSA conferences had articles as well. Additionally, the format of the member schools chart was inspired by the one in the Chicago Catholic League article. If the format of this article is deemed okay as a starter article, I might be interested in adding pages for other IHSA conferences that don't have articles as well, as this was fairly easy and kind of fun to do, as at least the IHSA offers a good briefer on member schools (though, as I said, not on their histories or backgrounds). Great start .... I agree that finding history might be difficult, but that just means pouring through print sources. I have found that downstate papers in many ways covered high school far more closely than their city counterparts, which should make finding information easier.

However, I must strongly suggest that the article title be changed back to Big Twelve Conference (Illinois). The Big 12 is not a part of the IHSA, and is not an agency of the IHSA. In fact, the only thing that the IHSA really has in common with this conference is in football, where the Big 12 champion is given an automatic bid to the playoffs (like other conferences). If not changed, there is a strong implication that this conference is an extension of the IHSA, which it is not.

Good point, I changed the page name according to your suggestion. "Big Twelve Conference (Illinois)" is less wordy and obviously refers to the same thing. RPH (talk) 18:30, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a good move .... and you were right to double check that this is the only conference of this name in Illinois (it very well may not have been).
