National Party of Australia?[edit]

I don't understand the following statement: "Johnston won his seat as a National Party of Australia candidate in the election of June 1917".

The National's predecessor, the Country Party, did not exist until after 1917 and as far as I am aware, there was no party called the "National Party of Australia" at this time. --Roisterer 11:44, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
