Reclassified as a start[edit]

Brother injured[edit]

I know that early reports were saying that her brother was injured in the attack that took Berta's life, but I'm thinking that was just mis-reporting since the Mexican activist is being named as injured and as a key witness to the murder. Since we have RSs that back it up, I didn't want to just remove it, but I don't think I've seen anything that said that two additional people were injured in the attack. What do people think? -- Irn (talk) 17:45, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I think I added that point about her brother based on one early report, but I notice there have been other conflicting reports as well. Probably best to remove. MurielMary (talk) 17:52, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Small inconsistencies between sources[edit]

A few small things: Are we sure we have her DOB correct? I've seen numerous sources that she was 42, 43, or 44 at her time of death and, similarly, sources that say she was born in 1971, 1972, and 1973. I've seen the father of her children referred to as both her ex-husband and her husband, and I've seen his last name written as Zúñiga, Zúniga, and Zuniga. I'm not really sure how we should deal with all of these, and while the birth date is kind of important, the other two concerns are very minor. For what it's worth, Berta and Salvador were definitely no longer together, so I tend to go with ex-husband, but I don't know if they were ever formally married or divorced. And looking at their Facebook profiles, Salvador lists his last name as "Zuniga", but at least one of their daughters lists it as "Zúniga". -- Irn (talk) 23:22, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The birth date on her grave [1] says clearly 4 March 1971, and I think it can be considered a reliable source. -- Gabi S. (talk) 05:59, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Leahy statement[edit]

i see there is an aversion to including a statement by senator Leahy [2] it's not every day that a foreign national is named by a member of the foreign affairs committee, might go to notability. Duckduckstop (talk) 21:16, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's still there; I just didn't think it needed its own sentence, so I put it with the others. -- Irn (talk) 21:48, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Date of death[edit]

At the time of her death, reports were that she died after midnight, but it seemed pretty confused as to whether it was before or after midnight. The Gaipe report puts her date of death as the 2nd and notes that Castro made the first call for help at 23:39 on 2 March and that Berta died after asking him to call for help. I don't know that that's necessarily definitive, but it seems pretty solid to me. -- irn (talk) 18:59, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

7 convicted[edit]

this bbc article names the 7 convicted, and comments on other suspects, I don't normally look at editting these sorts of pages, so I'm not sure what the etiquette is - so I'm not making bold edits. EdwardLane (talk) 10:34, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

To add to article[edit]

To add to this article: mention of the close and long-standing relationship between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and DESA, the company implicated in Cáceres's murder. 173.88.246.138 (talk) 07:34, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DESA conflation[edit]

This article appears to refer to two distinct organizations both named as DESA:

For clarity, I suggest the acronym DESA be avoided entirely. Daask (talk) 14:05, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
