Playstation 4/Next-gen

Due to the constant edit warring over whether to include Playstation 4 as a confirmed console, I think a consensus should be come to in order to stop the continual addition and reverting. Here's a brief summary of what is known on the topic so far:

  • This is about the best confirmation currently available that BF4 will be released on PS4. Other hints (such as this article) make it sound like a PS4 version is a given.
  • BF4 has not been officially announced by EA. Of particular note is the lack of inclusion on the official pre-order website.
  • Various members of EA saying that BF4 looks good on next-gen consoles is not confirmation that the game will be released for PS4.

It's my opinion that it shouldn't be included until official confirmation by EA, but what does everyone else think about including PS4 as a platform? Samwalton9 (talk) 11:15, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

I saw somewhere on the internet that Battlefield 4 had been confirmed for "Next Gen Platforms". I'm quite new to Wikipedia and I really don't know how to reference. But if someone could find it that'd be good.
Take a look at this. If you look at the PS4 Wikipedia article it says in the "announced game titles" section that Battlefield 4 has been announced for the PS4. It's your decision. You can change that Wiki or change this one. One of them is incorrect. FranktheTank (talk) 10:03, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
DICE themselves have stated that BF4 will be a nextgen console title, heck we even know that NG versions will support 64 players on multiplayer. Surely the developers word is good enough?§ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.3.188.185 (talk) 07:20, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Exactly my point.FranktheTank (talk) 08:17, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Some developers have mentioned next-gen; this is not the same as official confirmation of Playstation 4 release. For all we know BF4 might come out on the new xbox and not the PS4, regardless of how likely anyone thinks that is, we haven't had it confirmed. In regards to the PS4 article, officially Wikipedia is not a reliable source, and second that article uses a source which I linked above. Samwalton9 (talk) 08:55, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
The Polygon reference clearly states:
"Battlefield 4 is coming to the PlayStation 4, Electronic Arts chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen confirmed at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference today."
So the issue should boil down to whether or not Polygon is a reliable source. I believe it is. Therefore, confirmation from the company's CFO should be acceptable, especially without rebuttal from EA in other news reports – something that would have surely happened by now. --GoneIn60 (talk) 07:39, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
I was able to dig up more sources that also confirm the announcement: VG247, Games Radar, EA --GoneIn60 (talk) 08:12, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
I would contend that none of the articles you linked confirm Battlefield 4 for the PS4:
  • Polygon - Though their opening paragraph states that the game was confirmed, if you read the quote what was actually said was "I'd say between now and E3 you're going to see a lot of stuff from us. We're very excited about Sony's platform. The technical power on the platform is going to allow us to do a substantial amount of things we've never done before. I've seen the new Battlefield and it is stunning. It is just amazing what the imagination of the game developers are allowed to do with that much power." To me this is borderline hinting that has been misconstrued by Polygon to run that headline.
  • VG247 - Does not provide a source for their information on the PS4 release, and are most likely basing their claim on the previous interview.
  • Games Radar - References the next source for their claim.
  • EA - Of Battlefield 4, they say only "At a GameStop company meeting earlier this week, we gave 500 store managers a sneak peak at Battlefield 4." Granted this is in an article which starts with information on the Playstation 4, but I think to assume that therefore the game is confirmed for Playstation 4 is just that; an assumption.
I think that's what my argument boils down to: I don't think that the Playstation 4 should be listed as a confirmed console until EA officially confirm it. Samwalton9 (talk) 09:13, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
While the concern is appreciated, here is what you're overlooking. There are experts in the industry whose opinions carry more weight than yours or mine. The consensus among industry experts appears to be that Battlefield 4 is being released for the PS4, based on the information presented to them. For us to look at that same information and determine a very different conclusion, we are in essence conducting original research to counter their claims. The examples listed above are considered to be from reliable sources. If you are contending that these sources are unreliable, then I suggest you take it to the RSN. I would caution, though, that there are plenty more reliable sources out there. These are just the first few I stumbled across. I think you're going to have a hard time discounting the reliability of so many. --GoneIn60 (talk) 12:34, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Here are three more I just found in the last 5 minutes. There are dozens more:
Ok I can understand your point. Do you think it's best left as 'unofficially confirmed' in terms of wording here? Samwalton9 (talk) 16:59, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Yes, seems reasonable to me. I suspect it won't be long until it's official. --GoneIn60 (talk) 18:39, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

China Rising DLC

Should we add anything about the China Rising DLC announced by DICE? ROLLERSOX 04:45, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

And this part confuses me. Is China a playable faction without the DLC? Or do we have to shell out an extra fifteen bucks for another day-one DLC to play the full game, as it was made, on launch day?68.145.212.169 (talk) 23:10, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
Most likely the former, but only time will tell. ROLLERSOX 05:37, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

New Sub-Section Game Modes and Multiplayer Maps

Hey peoples, I think that we should add some new sub-sections under Gameplay considering there is heaps of information and sources from EA confirming the details of the multiplayer maps and game modes available.

Game Modes Source:

Multiplayer Map Sources:

I hardly make edits to Wikipedia, but after following BF4 for a while, and see the lack of information on the page about the game, I thought I'd suggest this here first before making changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Soundmaster91 (talkcontribs) 08:59, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Game Engine

There has been a request to add information and screenshots about the Game Engine (Frostbite 3) from readers feedback. I have added it but it was removed, don't know whether it is necessary to put it back please let me know. Gdcdigital (talk) 12:47, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Incorrect EU release date

The release date states Friday November 1st for the EU release date, this is in fact the UK release date, as confirm by the UK site used as a source. The EU release date is Thursday 31st October. With the article locked however I cannot change it. — Preceding unsigned comment added byLongbow64 (talkcontribs) 10:22, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

I changed it to UK and added DE as October 30th. If you can give me a url so I don't have to search for the info you know i will add the entire EU release date. Thanks, Cky2250 (talk) 13:38, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Rewriting Entire Article

The main article has a Wikipedia notification box that says the article "may need to be rewritten entirely to comply with Wikipedia's quality standards". Do any other contributors have any thoughts on this or a plans to rewrite this article? My thoughts are that maybe it should be rewritten after the game is released and more reliable becomes available about the game content. Soundmaster91 (talk) 04:48, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Just wait the release will be out soon.Cky2250 (talk) 13:35, 18 October 2013 (UTC)
Also note that this was back in July [1] is a url to the revisions from then till nowCky2250 (talk) 13:40, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Platoons?

I have seen mentions of Battlefield 4 Platoons (although naturally still more links to BF3), which seem to be some kind of official way to group people to play together. There seems to be a place to create and search them: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/platoon/landing/. But I can't find any explanation what they really are. Could we add a paragraph in this article that explains what these are? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.99.29.100 (talk) 20:56, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Commander Mode

In the game you can enter commander mode once you reach rank 10, but at least on Xbox 360 it is not very clear how you do certain actions while being a commander. Would be nice to have a paragraph that explains commander mode, and a link to documentation about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.99.29.100 (talk) 20:56, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Bugs, crashes, complications with the game

Are bugs, crashes and associated problems which happened to (to my knowledge) many players (mostly pc version) after the game's release noteworthy enough to be included in this article? I saw one article about it on pc gamer and I myself have had issues that made the game unplayable until a recent patch. 188.23.194.226 (talk) 13:40, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

I find that these problems should be mentioned since many gamers have been very annoyed with the forced by the too early (IMO) release. All people I have spoken with have had crashes, lockups and general issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.227.189.9 (talk) 12:03, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

I just added something about these crashes in the reception paragraph. As usual, reviewers for AAA games like this one only mention how the game is great, critics from "trusted" sites often come after a lot of players have encountered game breaking issues. Hervegirod (talk) 11:53, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
Be warned, I just discovered that what I added (which was fully sourced by "trusted" sites) was removed some days ago without any reason by another editor. I re-added it, but it could be removed again Hervegirod (talk) 15:25, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Battlefield 4 Writer

Can we please add on the fact that former Modern Warfare writer, Jesse Stern was the writer of Battlefield 4?

Single Player Campaign Progress Bug

I think this bug is serious enough to warrant mention. My previous edit to include it was removed, which I have replied to here.

As I mentioned in my reply to GoneIn60, the article's current wording surrounding bugs and glitches implies this was only at release, when quite obviously, it's not. A bug that deletes players single player progress, affects all platforms, has thousands upon thousands of complaints across both social media sites and forums, and has yet to be fixed after 6 months of commercial availability seems serious enough to warrant mention. 87.242.160.151 (talk) 16:40, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Ban In China?

I'm pretty sure this isn't banned in mainland China, at least not anymore. I'm actually playing BF4 as I'm writing this on a server in mainland China, and the Chinese users are telling me that it is only illegal to play this game if you are under 18. I'm even playing the China Rising DLC maps with them. This Chinese server is one of several I noticed in the server browser. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.49.211.47 (talk) 22:18, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Mass effect theme

The theme song for Mass Effect plays in the background between map changes on the multiplayer portion of Battlefield 4.
