Complaint[edit]

This page is written entirely like an advertisement, with little relevant, bias-free encyclopedic information. Many of the sources come from think tanks ran by members of the board of directors. The words "accelerated curriculum," "traditional public schools" and others are buzzwords, vague, and induce bias. Many claims are dubious, and are completely unsourced. The article's attempt to "write for the opponent" is simply reduced to, "critics say _____, but that's wrong because." The article places the burden of doubt onto the "critics" and focuses the vast majority of the article on listing the (dubious and unsourced) accomplishments of the BASIS Model. The page needs extensive revision.

Protection[edit]

A few months ago, the school's IP was blocked. Yesterday it was extended. Someone yesterday made another spurious edit (similar to a previous one) from a Cox Cable address (probably from home). I'm going to suggest page protection. Rhadow (talk) 14:04, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Direct links to school websites[edit]

The article includes many external links contrary to WP:EXT. They need to go.

Further, it is unclear that the schools in China are sponsored by BASIS Schools. They use the BASIS Curriculum, a product of Basis Educational Group, a related, but for-profit organization. If so, then they do not belong in this article. Rhadow (talk) 12:45, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Typo corrections[edit]

I would like to propose correction to a few simple typos (e.g., organzation, Tuscon). Due to my conflict of interest, should I submit an edit request with template for simple typos, or would you prefer I make such edits personally? Thank you for your help and patience!174.79.25.246 (talk) 16:26, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

these two have been corrected. Jacona (talk) 16:43, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for making those corrections. Would someone please change "sixteenthy" to "sixteenth." Thanks in advance! Alice Angstrom (talk) 15:52, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article title[edit]

I would like to propose changing the name of this article to reflect the accurate name of the network, "Basis Curriculum Schools." Alice Angstrom (talk) 18:30, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alice Angstrom, The name of the non-profit(EIN: 86-0908854) is Basis Schools, Inc. Source: IRS Form 990. No d.b.a. is listed on that filing. Do you have another source? Rhadow (talk) 14:20, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The website gives "Basis Curriculum Schools". Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:24, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Before we act on this, I'd like non involved editors' opinions on merging this article and Basis Educational Group, the parent company's article. This article is essentially an unnecessary content fork from a relatively short article. John from Idegon (talk) 21:50, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's a good idea. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:04, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am happy to provide some additional content for BASIS Educational Group, but am also fine with merging the two, as long as we are able to identify the difference and relationship between those two entities(and with appropriate citations).Alice Angstrom (talk) 22:40, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Alice Angstrom: - Please indent your comments appropriately. Each colon before the comment represents a tab, and a response should be one tab further indented than the comment it is in response to. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:08, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies and thanks. If the two are merged, The main article would have to be Basis Curriculum Schools, which includes Basis Charter Schools, Basis Independent Academies, and Basis International Schools; whereas Basis Educational Group is the charter management organization that manages Basis Charter Schools only, not all Basis Curriculum. Alice Angstrom (talk) 00:28, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, there is no "Have to be" about it. The article will be called what the Wikipedia community decides to call it, based on our normal standards and practices. Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:20, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe we should just delete the bunch as WP:PROMO? Jacona (talk) 00:54, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't support that - much of the promo material has been stripped, and the subject is clearly notable. If there's more promo stuff to come out, have at it, but deletion is, in my mind, overkill. Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:21, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I'm not involved, but a single article would not break my heart. The topic is substantial, a charter school system that collects tuition, etc etc. There is no verifiable source provided for the assertion that Basis Curriculum Schools Inc. exists. It seems to be a branding concept. The matter can be fixed with redirects; no discussion required. This reminds me of naming discussions for law firms. It's a pluperfect waste of time. I'm expecting someone to show up here with the internal memo titled, "Use of the company name and and logotype, standards and restrictions." I am committed to the use of company names that appear in the press and public documents. My previous observation about the nonprofit specifically still stands. I'll fix that. The Arizona Corporation Commission website provides name confirmation and filing status for the various entities that comprise the BASIS Curriculum Schools network. They can be found by searching for "BASIS" on https://ecorp.azcc.gov/
BASIS Curriculum Schools refers to the worldwide network of 37 BASIS schools that use the BASIS Curriculum and model, and includes BASIS Charter Schools, BASIS International Schools, and BASIS Independent Schools.
BASIS Charter Schools was formerly known as BASIS Schools, Inc.; however, the name has been amended. I have a pdf and html version of the amendment that was filed through the AZCC, but am not sure how best to attach it. BASIS Charter Schools comprise 27 charter schools, including all BASIS Charter Schools in Arizona, as well as BTX Schools in Texas, BBR Schools in Louisiana, and BASIS DC in the District of Columbia. BASIS Charter Schools are managed by the Educational Management Organization (EMO) BASIS Educational Group, (styled as BASIS.ed).
BASIS International Schools currently include five international BASIS Curriculum Schools, BASIS International School Shenzhen (2015), BASIS International School Guangzhou (2017), BASIS International School Hangzhou (2018), and BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour (2018) and one international PreK-K school, BASIS Beginners Prague, in the Czech Republic; In 2019, BASIS International Schools will open three additional schools, including a second campus in Shenzhen (in the Futian District), BASIS Nanjing, and BASIS Bangkok. BASIS International Schools are managed by the Educational Management Organization (EMO) BASIS Overseas Educational Services (styled as BOES).
BASIS Independent Schools includes five private BASIS Curriculum Schools in the United States, including BASIS Independent Brooklyn, BASIS Independent Fremont, BASIS Independent Manhattan, BASIS Independent McLean, and BASIS Independent Silicon Valley. BASIS Independent Schools are managed by the Educational Management Organization (EMO) BASIS Independent Schools, LLC. BASIS Educational Ventures owns the BASIS brand.
Please consider the renaming of this article to BASIS Curriculum Schools, so the structure and relationships between the various units can be accurate described.
Thank youAlice Angstrom (talk) 18:19, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Alice Angstrom, please refrain from forum shopping. You've made essentially the same request at Talk:Basis_Scottsdale#Branding. The answer will come when the answer comes. Please do not send legal filing documents. Rhadow (talk) 18:42, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies, I thought that legal filings and government websites would certainly be considered credible and verifiable, particularly in response to the IRS 990 form referenced. Can you help me understand why it is not permissible?
Further, I thought this Talk page (rather than an individual school article) seemed a more appropriate forum to address the broader picture, so I wanted to make sure it was available for consideration in this "Article Title" conversation. Didn't mean to inundate you with my comments. Best.Alice Angstrom (talk) 19:09, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I just wanted to check in to see whether a consensus could be reached in regard to renaming this article "Basis Charter Schools" --OR-- renaming this article "Basis Curriculum Schools" and breaking the content of it down into the three school categories: Basis Charter Schools (free, public); Basis Independent Schools (tuition-based, private); and Basis International Schools (international, private). I hope we can work together to make the information in this article accurate. I appreciate your help and guidance as I try to navigate through the editing process. Thank you!Alice Angstrom (talk) 21:39, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Updating the revenue total[edit]

The total revenues for Basis Schools needs to be updated from its 2015 to its 2016 numbers. 2016 is the current audit on file with the updated records accessible. Suggested change from $68,542,282 to $85,472,876. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Khenden (talkcontribs) 00:11, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bias[edit]

This page takes a lot of criticism of Basis schools with very little on the positive side. A more equal review of the plus and minus sides of Basis would be helpful to readers 68.230.70.113 (talk) 02:47, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
