Varna status[edit]

Although the cited sourced^[1] does mention a kshatriya claim, it is confusingly worded and looks to be politicised nonsense. If we are going to state the claim I think we need to find academic sources. - Sitush (talk) 12:35, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The cited source is about Baria Koli, who are "sub-sections" of Koli people, as per the source. But this article doesn't mention anything about the Koli people. Anyway, the source discusses the KHAM theory, which was devised by a politician for the vote bank politics. The writer states that the OBC status is deemed to be equivivatent to Kshatriya status in Gujrat, and that the Kolis acquired the Kshatriya status by becoming OBC! So, you are right that this piece is absurd.

We clearly need scholarly sources for the caste-related claims. And the unverified/poor stuff of the Indian media doesn't come anywhere close to meeting WP:HISTRS. - NitinMlk (talk) 22:26, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Koli connection[edit]

I have just removed a sourced statement claiming that the Baria are a part of the Koli community. The sources used were snippet views but appeared to be lists, the search term that the contributor had used was biassed (they had searched for "Baria-Koli") and there is an apparent ambiguity in other sources. I have added a source which explains the state of flux and I looked at the current OBC list for Gujarat which, although useless as a source, does seem to indicate the complexity of the situation because it uses the Baria term at entries 37 and 69. I'm not saying that the Koli connection is 100% wrong, just that things are more complex than the contributor was portraying. - Sitush (talk) 09:37, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear sir I want to tell you that Baria caste has no connection with Koli.I have the whole history of the Baria caste.You have mentioned in this article that Baria caste has connection with Koli., It's wrong ...Baria is a Kshatriya Rajput caste derived from the Sodha branch of the Parmar caste.

Please delete this article and create a new correct article about the history of Baria caste.
