Vandal-prone?[edit]

Seems that this set of rocks has had quite a vandalism history. Is its geographic importance worth the entry and the efforts to maintain its integrity? I wonder. Keithh (talk) 17:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't really call it a "solitary hill". It's not exceptionally *high*, but it does seem to be reasonable set of small hills. Googlemap view: [1]

"Bang Bang" refers to nearby Bang Bang Station - a cattle property - and "jump up" is a local(?) term used for abrupt changes in geography. Considering that the road from Cloncurry to Normanton is mostly flat, geographical features like this would tend to stand out.

Here is an extract from a travel blog - not useful for an article, but interesting nonetheless - about a cycling trip through the area in 2003. [2]

"...We eventually came to the Bang Bang Jump Up which is a small escarpment in the middle of nowhere. Named after the nearby Bang Bang Station and rising no more than 150 metres it is the only prominent thing on the horizon around here. The road up the jump up is the single lane variety and with the traffic passing it made for an interesting part of the ride, especially when the triple trailered road trains went past. At the top of the jump up is a wayside stop with a small shelter and a rubbish bin... "

And after all that, I really don't think that there is anything really notable about it that would justify an article in wikipedia. (And this is speaking as a local - Cloncurry - resident, who would love to see more NW Qld articles.)
