I don't see "tangential" to Baha'i Faith in Brazil for all the things being edited out. Can someone explain more than "it's tangential"?--Smkolins (talk) 15:17, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Information about the South American Bahá'í Congress and who attended is not necessary for the specifics of the religion in Brazil. Maybe a global page on the South American Baha'i community, but not a specific country. Similarly Ruhiyyih Khanum travels through Peru and Bolivia have no place here. Finally, background on the Earth Charter, and the global Baha'i community's response to it have nothing to do with Brazil. The Earth Summit did occur in Brazil, and the specific actions by Baha'is in that country for that event are notable, not the rest. Regards, -- Jeff3000 (talk) 16:21, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Information about the South American Bahá'í Congress and who attended is not necessary for the specifics of the religion in Brazil." - perhaps that Brazilians participated is notable.
"Similarly Ruhiyyih Khanum travels through Peru and Bolivia have no place here." But her travels through the Amazon isn't?
I see the part about the Summit and what was general vs Brazilian.--Smkolins (talk) 20:03, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Point 1 above: not particularly. Brazil is the largest country in South America, and thus it would be expected.
  • Point 2 above: A person travelling through a country does not make it a defining moment for that country. You need a lot more sources that make it clear that that trip was specifically notable for Brazil.

In terms of point 2 - perhaps someone who speaks Portuguese could review this source about Ruhiyyih Khanum's trips to Brazil for a notability to the Baha'is of Brazil.--Smkolins (talk) 12:24, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

I agree third party sources would be great but third party sources hardly ever seem to cover events in the Baha'i community. They aren't all that super common for large religions even. Sure the Pope made a trip but the details of what he said and did are often covered only in Catholic press releases or news agencies at least in some of my experience. As long as a reputable source refers to what happened then it's a reputable source. More sources or stronger sources are fine but they don't diminish reputable sources.--Smkolins (talk) 15:22, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability, as defined by Wikipedia policy, is created by non-self-published sources, so third-party sources are necessary, and not an option. Regards, -- Jeff3000 (talk) 16:22, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
More citations that could leverage that third-party perspective -

bulleted style[edit]

I agree bulleted style is awkward but is that a reason to just drop most of that content? The section largely dropped refers to diversity of actions and concerns of the community. Looking back decades and further things get simpler because things that didn't matter retreat into the background. Newer events - it's hard to know what's "worthwhile". I'd prefer a diversity of entries rather than not.--Smkolins (talk) 16:12, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Until the section is cleaned up, and presented in a coherent manner I don't think it should be visible. There are Wikipedia guidelines against lists; prose is recommended. If you rather have it visible, I'm going to tag it with a cleanup tag, as recommended by Wikipedia policy. That's not to say I will not work on it, but at it's current stage, it's not in a stage that I recommend having this on the page. Regards, -- Jeff3000 (talk)
So something like "The Brazilian Baha'is have had a diverse field of endeavors. For example .....and .... Later ... and .... Youth had .... and .... Just because it was in prose its better?--Smkolins (talk) 20:05, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, just putting together a list of facts does not an article make. An article has to be structured to flow correctly. Regards, -- Jeff3000 (talk) 22:41, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
