Bagamoyo or Dunda?[edit]

I wonder if Bagamoyo really is the official name of this place today? The reason I ask is that there is no shehia (ward) with the name Bagamoyo, and no urban district with this name either. The name for the ward is Dunda, which is a small urban ward that is surrounded by another considerable larger ward (with mixed urban & rural population) named Magomeni. The smallest administrative unit I can find with the name Bagamoyo is the district as a whole. My sources is 2002 Census results, village statistics tables and ILRI, shapefile map of Tanzania wards. So, what is it - Bagamoyo or Dunda?

Another thing: the article says that Bagamoyo is the capital of the district with the same name. However, this source says that the capital of the district is a place named Chalinze. --Pjred 15:24, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--- The town's name is Bagamoyo. Originally, it was called Dunda, but was changed to Bagamoyo in the 19th century.

(The name had two sources, both with the same two Swahili words: Bwaga-moyo [literally "throw down heart"]. The first was from when porters would arrive from the interior and would feel really happy their journey was over. The second came from when slaves would arrive, and would realize they had no chance of going back to their homes.)

I know these because I was just there a few days ago (January 8). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.43.74.242 (talk) 09:48, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I have learned after my old message that this is the case. Bagamoyo seems to cover a ward named Dunda, and also parts of the surrounding ward Magomeni.--Pjred (talk) 14:27, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
