Move to BM-30 ?[edit]

Proposed move[edit]

There is a proposal here to move this article to a new name.--Pattont/c 20:02, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why BM-30???[edit]

Who selected the BM-30 designator anyway? The name of the set is 9K58 and the launch vehicle is the 9A52. No one uses the name BM-30, certainly not the user countries. dendirrek (talk) 06:12, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The translated name is incorrect as well. It is "Tornado" (Смерч). Had it been "Whirlwind", it would be called "вихрь". Acorn897 (talk) 17:44, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Georgia[edit]

Georgia has been added as an operator. The source is a supposed confidential Georgian MoD end user certificate (written in English!), posted at a georgian forum. I am not sure if this is a reliable source and whether what it claims is true. D2306 (talk) 17:45, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Operational history[edit]

The following statement is not supported by the link used for authority:

"It was also used by pro-Russian rebels or regular Russian troops against Ukrainian targets during the War in Donbass."

The Human Rights Watch article linked makes reference to evidence of Smerch rockets being fired against Lugansk City, which was under rebel control at the time. The evidence points to its use by Ukrainian government forces.

Another Human Rights Watch article[1] makes reference to evidence of Smerch weapon systems being used by the Ukrainian government forces for the delivery of cluster munitions to Donetsk City. Again, the evidence is overwhelming that it was used by the Ukrainian side.

A search shows no neutral sources alleging use of Smerch weapon systems by the forces of Donetsk and Lugansk.

The misleading statement will be changed to reflect the actual information contained in the two Human Rights Watch articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.111.20.66 (talk) 04:36, 25 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

please add this information to A_100E section.[edit]

200+ units, produced locally as the A-100E with complete TOT, based on the Chinese A-100, which is in turn based on the Soviet BM-30. Humayun1997 (talk) 13:55, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Article started to be abused[edit]

I just reverted the edits that were made regarding 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the operational history section. Some started to use this article to accuse either side in the conflict. Hammer5000 (talk) 12:33, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

another warhead in Kharkiv[edit]

This looks like non-separated, chute-retarded version - is this thermobaric? --Anidaat (talk) 15:42, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cluster of edits, a revert, and more edits - page preview problem solved.[edit]

There was a subtle problem in the infobox that was causing the page preview for this article (eg. what appears when you hover over this: BM-30 Smerch) to be corrupted; it was showing infobox source instead of the first few lines of article content. Since I cannot find a way to test page previews without publishing the changes, I had to publish a few changes that were just debugging or trying various ideas to identify the root of the problem. I did find and fix the problem, it was a bad value for the caliber parameter in the info box. If someone knows how to get page previews of not yet published edits, I would love to hear it. Page previews do not work in users' sandboxes, they only work in the main namespace. - Wikkiwonkk (talk) 21:23, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
