Ayodhya Junction railway stationAyodhya Dham Junction railway station – The Railway Station has been renamed by the Indian Railways as of December 27,2023. Homolego (talk) 13:33, 27 December 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. 🌺 Cremastra (talk) 16:15, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - Too soon. Name change announced today only (27 December 2023). "Ayodhya Junction railway station" is the WP:COMMONNAME. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:36, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Then when it can be consistent as common name ? Post Inauguration? Homolego (talk) 13:48, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
May be much later. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:49, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay! Homolego (talk) 13:52, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would also like to enlighten upon this as it is already shown in news also that it is officially changed to Ayodhya Dham from Ayodhya Jn. Kindly move it today only to sought out. Kerashtra21 (talk) 15:08, 27 December 2023 (UTC)information Note: WP:SOCKSTRIKE[reply]
Like for Prayagraj Jn and subsequent 4 stations you wikipedians did change name after it was announced same should be applied here. Kerashtra21 (talk) 15:12, 27 December 2023 (UTC)information Note: WP:SOCKSTRIKE[reply]
  • Support : The Name has been changed through a government Notification of Indian Railways and will be used in common language now.
It should be changed immediately without any delay. GabrielCQX (talk) 15:45, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not how it happens. The new name should be much more common than the existing name in the next few months or year, then only it will be changed. Seems like you made an ID just to comment here. Note that Wikipedia page move discussions and RfCs are not votes. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:00, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This account looks suspicious as it is created just 8 hours ago. Pinging @Spicy and Yamla: to have a look. – 𝙰𝚔𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚟™ 🗿 23:35, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support name of a Railway Junction is not what is used for day to day discussions and there is no GENERAL NAME for a station, like we can argue that Prayagraj city might be Still called Allahabad in conversation, like Bombay and Calcutta. But the Name of a Railway Junction is a Official Name only, one cannot ask for a ticket to go to Ayodhya Jn anymore, people will only see Ayodhya Dham Jn. My opinion is that for naming of different entities, there should be different considerations based on the nature of affected change. Like a City name may take time to come in common use, but for something that is used only for official use, should affect the change as soon as official name changes. Karan.jr.Singh (talk) 21:06, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Searches on Google News for the period 1 March 2023 to 27 December 2023 yield 214 results for "Ayodhya Dham" (excluding bus) and 189 results for "Ayodhya Junction" (excluding bus). Similarly, general Google searches yield more results for "Ayodhya Dham" than for "Ayodhya Junction".-- Toddy1 (talk) 23:21, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Toddy1: I believe many of the 'Ayodhya Dhams' in the searches above refers to the pilgrimage site, hence with a -Dham suffix (Char Dham for example), instead of the actual new name of the railway station which was announced yesterday only. I see WP:TOOSOON for the new name/phrase to be notable. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:10, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station. Mint (newspaper), 27 December 2023 says that the new name is "Ayodhya Dham Junction". This is confirmed by Hindustan Times, 27 December 2023, which quotes the official announcement The earlier allotted alphabetical code ‘AY’ has been retained. Accordingly you are requested to adopt the modified name of the station as ‘Ayodhya Dham Jn’ along with its already allotted alphabetical code. The same has been notified to all the concerned authorities under the advice of this office.-- Toddy1 (talk) 23:31, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks-- Toddy1 (talk) 00:55, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there's a general consensus Please inform me else I'm withdrawing my proposal from the talk page.
Thankyou Homolego (talk) 05:29, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, not a common name yet. It'll be too early to move it . Ratnahastin (talk) 09:47, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For the context of this particular article, the evidences already available above seems pretty convincing that its not TOO EARLY for sure. Please check out the comments above and see if it changes your vote. Karan.jr.Singh (talk) 11:18, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Contrary to what @Toddy1 is pointing out, I don't see a significant use of the alternative naming scheme and I think the usage of Google results here is disruptive at worst and misleading at best. The reason there are so many mentions of "Ayodha Dham" is because it was in the breaking news banner on many websites with the specific string of text: "Ayodha Junction renamed to Ayodhya Dham Junction" during the last day in that period (And google cached that version of the page). Most of those stories do not mention the junction in any capacity at all. Sohom (talk) 12:35, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sohom, Agreed, many seem to be referring to the pilgrimage site(s) instead. As in Char Dham, instead of the station name. It is too soon. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:13, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
we are sanatanis and you all the deshdrohis if opposing for name change of ayodhya railway station you do not have right to do so change to ayodhya dham this name of web page. Kerashtra21 (talk) 10:32, 29 December 2023 (UTC)information Note: WP:SOCKSTRIKE[reply]

  • Support - I have looked up IRCTC, the official Indian railways booking operator, the station code is AY and the station's name is indeed Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station. Thewikizoomer (talk) 13:16, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Thewikizoomer: I don't understand what are you supporting. The article name is already Ayodhya Junction railway station. The discussion is about whether it should be renamed as Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station. The Dham part is to be added or not. Note that the WP:COMMONNAME depends on the most commonly used name in English language as of now, which is not the same as the official name. For example Germany is the common name of the country, but the official name is different. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:16, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I fixed the typo, The station's name is indeed Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station and not Ayodhya Junction railway station.
Dham because, the station is popular among Ram temple devotees. The site Ayodhya is often referred to as Ayodhya Dham and hence the station's official and commonly known name is Ayodhya Dham junction railway station. Thewikizoomer (talk) 14:28, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Thewikizoomer: Thanks for correcting it. I know the logic behind the name change, but the common name in English-language-only sources is a different thing, and doesn't depend on the official name. Firstly, it depends on sources worldwide (not just India), from where we have calculate which term is used the most (in majority of the reliable sources). See WP:COMMONNAME. Secondly it was changed few days back, so it is WP:TOOSOON for the change. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:35, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Though the official name was changed recently, Ayodhya was always referred to as Ayodhya Dham and its station is also known as "Ayodhya Dham ki railway station", the dham thing was always there because of the Ram temple at this location. The name was changed because it's known as Ayodhya Dham, it's not like after the change people started calling it Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station. Thewikizoomer (talk) 04:12, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Thewikizoomer People is a very abstract concept here. You are going to need to back that claim up with some kind of source A lot of people/residents call Mumbai Bombay, however most reliable sources will refer to it as Mumbai. Similarly, Bengali is called "Bangla" by a overwhelming majority of it's speaker, however, reliable sources refer to it as Bengali (and Wikipedia follows the reliable sources) Sohom (talk) 04:38, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reliable sources seem to refer to the station as Ayodhya Dham. Thewikizoomer (talk) 09:35, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now, not before. Also you have to consider the full phrase - "Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station", which is the recently official name. People have been referring to Ayodhya as Ayodhya Dham since ages, the article name of the city is "Ayodhya" and not "Ayodhya Dham". It also depends on English sources, for example Bombay was known as Mumbai before the official name change. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:20, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
