Untitled[edit]

I have not included a reference to the Wikipedia article on the WHO Directory of Medical Schools because the list of medical schools in that article is not the same as the list actually in the WHO Directory [1]. Such a wiki link would be misleading to readers who do not know about this subject

The WHO database was transferred to AVICENNA in 2008 so I have redirected the WHO Directory of Medical Schools article here, and added a WHO Directory history subsection to this article. Any objections? aqwfyj Talk/Contribs 15:41, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicity or nationality?[edit]

There has been a minor edit war over whether Avicenna is "Arab" or "Persian". This is fruitless, so I have inserted his place of birth, instead of either of these terms. A few years ago I gave a lecture about Avicenna in Khartoum, to an audience drawn widely from almost every country from Morocco in the West to Afghanistan in the East, and from North to South as well: the only discussion about his origin was not over ethnicity or nationality, but over the correct typography for his name, a difficult question.

I have even given a talk suggesting (in jest) that Avicenna might have had Viking ancestors. You can "prove" almost anything about ethnicity or nationality at that distance in time. Gordoncph (talk) 15:58, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
