Merger proposal[edit]

The information on the Avery Thresher is brief and is very unlikely to be substantially expanded any time soon. This topic should be merged with the article on the parent company, Avery Co..

B. F. Avery Company[edit]

Not sure about the familial relationship, but a Benjamin Franklin Avery also manufactured tractors. Here's some info:

Benjamin Franklin Avery purchased the Cleveland Tractor Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland was producing a tractor they called 'The General' which was a tractor primarily used in vegetable farming. Avery purchased the company and began building the B.F. Avery tractor line in the 1940s. Most of these 4-cylinder, 12 horsepower tractors were sold in the south to tobacco farmers.
The assets of the Avery Company were purchased by Minneapolis-Moline in 1951.[1] The timing was unfortunate, because government-imposed limitations on manufacturing materials and production during the the Korean War turned the Avery company assets into a financial burden. Minneapolis-Moline, which was later purchased by the White Motor Corporation, was forced to sell the remaining Avery plant after three straight years of losses.[2]

Automobile production[edit]

The lead of the article says the company "manufactured trucks and then automobiles," but there's no details on automobile production outside of the trucks in the body of the article. Does anyone have information on this? --Sable232 (talk) 23:22, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sable232, There is a link to the Glide article - Glide was the automotive company set up by JB Barthomolew. There was never an automobile produced as an "Avery" - they were all Glides.
