Differences in spelling or writing his name Semendinger instead of Semmendinger might be caused by the former use of reducing double-consonants like "mm" or "nn" to a "n" or "m" with a capital line above these letter, and this was common esp. in his hereditary region of Swabia (my grandma used the same pronounciation).
