Untitled[edit]

I input a basic article about the Association of Muslim Lawyers about 48 hours ago which was deleted almost instantaneously on the grounds that it breached copyright. In fact all the words in the article are my own and you have my permission to display them on Wikipedia. These words do appear on the Association of Muslim Lawyers website, again with my permission. You also have the permission of the executive committee of the Association of Muslim Lawyers to display them on Wikipedia. Accordingly I would be grateful if whoever deleted the Article so swiftly could restore it just as swiftly. Thank you. Neutrality, wikification, etc.[edit]

I just added the NPOV, wikify, and advert templates to this article. I believe this article is in need of a complete rewrite, given that it's just a copy and paste of a mission-statement letter written by the director of the group (regardless of the fact that he himself uploaded it).

Some examples of problems...

its membership and influence have been steadily growing.

Needs to be sourced - and growing influence is a tough thing to prove.

have helped them to help not only the Muslim community in the United Kingdom, but also society as a whole.

Very POV, advertisement-ish.

Act with hope - and this is what its members seek to do.

Sounds like a self-promotion.

as a result of AML's efforts!

Needs to be better established/sourced that it was AML's efforts that were a/the large cause. And the exclamation point needs to be dropped.

In all other spheres of life, including the provision of services, education and housing, religious discrimination is still not illegal.

This is a VERY bold statement - sounds very POV and definitely would need to be backed up with sourced examples. If this was provably true, it would warrant an article of its own.

I know nothing of UK law nor this organization, nor am I qualified to make statements about the influence of groups in the UK, so I can't rewrite this article. catParade 07:31, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree - this article is painful and needs serious work. I am not in a position to edit this but I hope that others can do so. Thanks, Hu Gadarn 00:11, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've done quite a lot - basically I cut anything which seemed like vacuous speech-making or of questionable truth (denunciations of the USA, assertions that anti-hijab laws are clearly illegal, claims about the achievements of the AML, and a lot of repetition) and tried just to summarise the areas they have campaigned on. There's still a bit of legalese which should be edited, and a lack of references, but hopefully this version is better as well as shorter. --Colapeninsula (talk) 11:20, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Category: Islamist groups[edit]

I think this category should be set. Ahmad Thomson is mentioned as member of the association. The article on him states him as member of the Murabitun movement. For this movement see http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Murabitun_(Sufismus)79.203.246.184 (talk) 19:55, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Legal jurisdiction - UK vs England[edit]

One problem with this article is that it doesn't take account of separate legal systems of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and now Wales. The only references to law are to English law, but it's not clear if the AML has any operations outside England. Correcting this will require detailed knowledge of the AML's campaigns and actions, but people should bear in mind when editing that if they mention legislation (or lobbying regarding legislation) they should specify which part of the UK this applies to. --Colapeninsula (talk) 11:24, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
