A distinguishing features of early Artemis was it's command-line "language" providing access to the underlying relational database with that language pre-dating SQL. That early language based software family was available on mini-computers (Artemis 5000 or Artemis 6000 both sold on HP 1000 series hardware), mainframe (Artemis 9000) and later on IBM pc's as Artemis 1000.

The subsequent total re-write of the Artemis language (listed in the main article as "Artemis 7") was Artemis 7000 and was available on VAX and also on IBM pc's. It was a significant departure from the earlier language and provided much lower levels functionality (e.g. the ability to create functions) but it became less simple to use "end-users". This variant of the language/software was the one available on the RISC based hardware Metier developed as Artemis 8000 where it was the operating system, database and application. Artemis 9000 was originally marketed as Mainframe Artemis and was actually officially released mid-1983. Thanks to IBM producing a PL1 compiler for Windows NT, it was ported to the LAN in the early to mid 1990's. The current release as of 13/Dec/2005, is 9.1.

The logs show that someone using an IP address registered to Artemis has been editing this page. In particular, removing factual material sourced from the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
