Is "Art Wolfe" a pseudonymn?

What's in a name?

A lot of actors use pseudonymns. If you want to become famous or start a successful restaurant, it helps to have an unusual name people will remember. So, I wonder if "Art Wolfe" is this photographer's real name.

I have another reason for questioning the name "Art Wolfe." I shoot nature photography. In the late 1980s, I wanted to create a pseudonymn that sounded artsy and woodsy. The name I came up with was "Art Wolf." Shortly afterward I discovered this name was all ready in use by this famous nature photographer.

So, I am left to wonder if he came up with "Art Wolfe" the same way I came up with "Art Wolf" or if his name really is "Art Wolfe." It seems too much of a coincidence to me that a famous nature photographer would have the name "Art Wolfe." Then again, I would never have thought "Wolfgang Puck" was a real name, but it is.

I wonder if I'm the only one was taken aback when they first heard the famous cook's name. I said to myself surely this is a name someone created to be remembered, and not forgotten. But "no" Wolfgang was adopted by Mr. Puck. I just have to say, it is a good thing Wolfgang was not adopted by Peter Bang of "Bang & Olufsen" fame (Peter Bang, Svend Olufsen).

Question of Bias?

Just looked up reference #16, used to support the majority of the "Image Manipulation" section. The writer of this article is Kenneth Brower, an environmental author who is arguably a direct competitor of Art Wolfe's. Wolfe published "Migrations" in 1994. Just 3 years later, in 1997, Brower published "American Legacy: Our National Forests" (According to Amazon.com). Then, in 1998, Brower published the article (ref #16), "Photography in the age of falsification", a piece which could be construed as disparaging to the landscape photography industry as a whole, and especially targets Wolfe. In light of Brower's public conflict of interest, it might be prudent to question whether or not material derived from this reference satisfies the neutral tone required of WP:BLP.Global Microscope (talk) 20:36, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
