Art is a joke of a musician, he is not a kind person (he sometimes makes degrading comments to passersby...I've heard it and almost kicked his teeth in for it) and most of all I don't think he meets Wikipedia:Notability (music) standards for inclusion. His inclusion on the Madison, Wisconsin page degrades the worthiness of true musicans like Leo Sidran, and Clyde Stubblefield.--205.219.133.241 18:59, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK, I've done what I can to bring this page in line with WP:Verifiability. Some of the other claims made are still pretty questionable, but oh well for now. If Art is going to on here - may as well add the Piccolo guy (Pat Ryan?). If borderline mental stability coupled with extrovertism is enough to qualify then let's be consistent and add in Piccolo, Scanner Dan and any other local area notable. I agree with other comments that it takes away from the real musical talents Madison has produced or homes.

The piccolo guy's name is TOM. And I have to say that the above degrading comments of Art Paul are unfair and mean. Whether he is a "joke of a musician" is a matter of opinion (I personally hate Radiohead--should we delete their page? I've never heard of Leo Sidran or Clyde Stubblefield--should we remove their references?). I have never seen Art Paul be anything but nice, if a bit quirky. And this is Wikipedia, guys. One's inclusion or exclusion on this site is by no means an honor or disgrace. Hitler's significance was (and continues to be) international, whereas Schlosser's significance, as far as I can tell, is confined to one, not particularly large, city, and even within that city is not great. (He's someone you'll notice on State Street, if you hang out there long enough; he's not someone you're likely to read about in the local newspaper or see on local television or someone who has any noticeable effect on local politics or culture, but let's not stress this point; the crucial point is that Schlosser's significance, such as it may be, appears to be strictly local.) It's hard for me to agree that "[playing] on the street in Boulder Colorado and in Seatle Washington and...even [!] [playing] an open mic in Seatle Washington" or "[sending] Dr Demento a CD and [getting] it played on the Funny 5" constitutes more than very marginal non-local notability. Madison characters, continued.[edit]

Just for the record, it's my impression that "the piccolo guy" is much more commonly known as The Orange Guy. He does have a reasonable degree of technique on his instrument (yes, the piccolo). He's also perfectly pleasant and articulate.TheScotch (talk) 08:28, 10 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

neutrality[edit]

who say's he's comical? this should be an encyclopaedic article. he's a comedic musician, but you can't state he is comical. this needs to be kept impartial. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 20:32, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Subject of the article as editor[edit]

As I understand it, Wikipedia discourages the subjects of biographical articles from editing those articles. It appears that the subject of this article has edited it extensively and contributed to the talk page as well. Should he be advised to desist? TheScotch (talk) 11:27, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

I've yet to see convincing evidence that the subject is notable outside Madison, Wisconsin. One very brief appearance on a talent show and a few spots on a novelty radio show don't strike me as particularly significant. TheScotch (talk) 11:33, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
