Where he went on leaving Smyrna[edit]

The article says "and was transported in Britain. Later the same year he moved to Nice, where he lived until the end of his life". I guess "was transported in Britain" means "was taken to Britain". The sentence conflicts with the short biography here, which claims that he went to Constantinople, thence to Romania, and finally settled in Cannes (not Nice). Does anyone know which is correct?
