Early life - Not Sir WRH's grandfather[edit]

Archibald Hamilton Rowan certainly was not Sir William Rowan Hamilton's grandfather. Hamilton's grandfather was William Hamilton, who was married to Archibald Hamilton Rowan's adoptive sister Grace MacFerrand. The baptism record of Hamilton's father Archibald Hamilton is online, https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/display-pdf.jsp?pdfName=d-277-1-3-093. Although this record seems to have been added later, and his birth year seems to be wrong since he was born in 1778, see p. 8 of https://archive.org/stream/lifeofsirwilliam01gravuoft#page/8/mode/2up, it is clear that he was a son of Grace Hamilton. Hamilton's uncle James' baptism record shows that Grace was married to William Hamilton: https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/display-pdf.jsp?pdfName=d-277-1-3-074. In Graves' biography of Sir WR Hamilton his father Archibald Hamilton was even explicit: his given name came from Archibald Hamilton Rowan, but although his father's name was also Hamilton, there was 'no intermixture of blood' with the Hamiltons of Killyleigh Castle.
