Demographics and Turkish[edit]

Hello, I just wanted to know what happened to those 480 Turks lived in Poroy. There are many things about Greeks, Bulgarians and Vlachs, but nothing for Turkish....Did they emigrate to Turkey or destroyed by Greek Army. According to my grandfather who immigrated from Poroy, they had to leave Poroy because Greek Army was set on fire their house. Please put here any detials if you know

ANS:

Turks left the village in 1923,after the Lausanne Treaty. (together with 480.000 other Turks from Greece, while 1.290.000 Greeks forced to left Turkey)

As for the article ..its at least biased and inaccurate.
Ano Poroia was founded in 1797-1802 by Greek Vlachs and other Greeks of Pindus mt.-not by Bulgarians,so the numbers given about 1000 Bulgarians and 60 Vlachs are at least out of reality.
There were some Bulgarian families.
Some left in 1919 after Neuilly treaty of exchange population .Some after 1945 (afraid of revenge by the Greeks after the oppression during Bulgarian occupation)but i know 1 family that stayed and preferred the Greek national identity.

ANS: Is it possible to get more info about Ano Poroia, any written history in english and trustful history? By the way, thank you for the info above.

ANS:
The article is based mostly on bulgarian sources(it's first formulation was a translation of the article in bulgarian Wikipedia) and of course it would be supportive to bulgarian aspects...

Later, I posted some facts(as I read them in greek books about the village) to make this article a little more neutral(IP of contribution 194.63.235.155).--Geotol 19:53, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The information about 1000 Bulgarians and 60 Vlachs do not derives from Bulgarian source. It is from - "Ethnographie des vilayets d'Adrianople, de Monastir et de Salonique" (issued in Constantinople in 1878 and concerning the population in 1873)--GrigorG 16:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Q:Could you please recommend any historical book about poroy in english or any book tells about that zone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.214.55.21 (talk) 22:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Links added to two books from 1878, in the "Bibliography" of this article, each arguing a different point, both printed in French in whist is now named Istanbul. Both can be accessed online. Keith H99 (talk) 20:23, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
