Disappointed

I am extremely disappointed that Ann will not be getting the anchor position on the Today show. Not only is she the most qualified, she may be one of the smartest newswomen on the air today. Ken

We are all disappointed that Ann did not get the job. Matt only read the news for one or two years then got promoted pronto. But Ann doesn't and a talk show game show host gets the job. I will be watching GMA now unfortunately after Katie leaves and watch Ann on Dateline. I can watch who wants to be a milllionare anytime. frober79@aol.com—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Frober79 (talkcontribs) 19:07, April 21, 2006 (UTC)
In case you didn't know, Meredith V was a contributor to "60 Minutes" in the early 90s and has a fair amount of experience as a journalist before she went the game show route (a gig she took, I believe, because her husband has MS and the show allowed her more flex time with her family and enough money to help support her family). As for Curry, have you ever noticed how she regularly over-emotes on camera? She feels the need, apparently, to "punch" (emphasize) about four or five words per sentence, which TENDS to give what she says a VERY, VERY MELODRAMATIC flavor. God forbid she should be one of the main anchors of "Today" when a truly dramatic and newsy story breaks -- i.e., the kind of story that requires substance rather than an extremely DRAMATIC, "wow, isn't this IMPORTANT!" kind of voice.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.225.67.214 (talkcontribs) 01:36, July 27, 2006 (UTC)

Middle Name

Does Ms. Curry have a middle name?

BTW, I have a crush on Ann. (Don't tell anybody!)--BigMac1212 03:20, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Me too! Even though she's almost 3 decades older than me... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.95.147.253 (talk) 12:14, 27 December 2006 (UTC).

Me too! And she has a lovely personality!

Good Morning, Good Morning

Joel McHale's started somewhat of a grassroots ridicule for her redundant use of "good morning." Shouldn't this be mentioned?

75.74.26.181 06:41, 28 July 2007 (UTC) bellerophon124

I completely agree. Many people know her only as the "good morning, good morning" woman from Joel McHale's show "The Soup" on E!

Radar Magazine

I remember that "poll". Radar was a magazine with no reputation which quickly folded. The comment quoted was unsourced by Radar, and given that Ann C. has been news anchor and co-presenter of the highest rated live show on TV for ten years is not exactly authoritative.

Is a silly, anonymous and biased comment permitted on Wikipedia just because a bad magazine published it?

Answer to the above comment: I'd say that yes, since other people have lobbed the same criticism at her Wuapinmon 21:08, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Palm Beach Post's Kevin Thompson, amongst others, has criticized Curry's poor interviewing skills. She often adopts a combative tone with interviewees that she obviously dislikes. She frequently fumbles for words. Some have speculated that she wasn't even a candidate to replace Katie Couric in 2006. Ann Curry's poor interview skills critiqued

Palm Beach Post?? Radar Magazine?? Hardly notable sources. I removed the nasty, POV, weasel wordy "criticism" section in its entirety. Gsd2000 01:16, 4 February 2007 (UTC

Your tone strikes me as belonging to a bitter fan of Ms. Curry. She has received criticism, and "notable" sources is POV too. I move to mention the criticism on the main page to maintain neutral POV.

Also, the media are the last to criticize one of their own.

shot comment

Was Ms. Curry shot in the ear? It doesn't make sense to say that she is deaf in five ears. 76.169.12.80 05:14, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

It was just vandalism. Katr67 21:19, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Haircut

Add the part where on the "Today Show" she had her haircut. Truth be told, nowadays she has her hair way too short. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.3.6.2 (talkcontribs)

Trivia Section

The bit saying, "Curry has been sued by several of her neighbors due to complaints about excessive noise, dust, early morning start times, illegal weekend work and concerns about safety during renovation of her Manhattan brownstone." has a footnote link that goes nowhere. Did somebody just make this up? Nope it wasn't made up. There's a link to a story in the NY Post where it was first reported on March 26, 2007 link is here http://www.nypost.com/seven/03262007/gossip/pagesix/join_the_crowd_pagesix_.htm

Missing Footnotes

As I was browsing this page, all of the citations are blank links and lead nowhere. If you are the author of the individual section, please put footnotes referencing the source of the information. Otherwise, we need to clean up any contentious statements. DanielD1980 02:08, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

It just needed {{reflist}} to make the refs show up. If there are more statements needing refs, either add {{refimprove}} to the refs section or {{fact}} tag individual sentences. Katr67 03:47, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Good morning (repeated)

I admit. I like that "Good morning" clip from one episode of the Today Show. But I don't think it needs to be mentioned in this article, or, at the very least, have its own section. THE evil fluffyface 21:47, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Siblings

I know that Ms. Curry has both brothers and sisters. Does anybody know how many of each she has?--BigMac1212 (talk) 05:30, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

NBC Nightly News substitution

I deleted the words "weekend editions," because she chiefly subs for Brian on weekdays.Kuahmel (talk) 23:07, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Please replace her picture in this article

She looks so haggard in that picture. She has many public photos online (where she appears radiant), so I guess we won't have a hard time replacing it. MarkMadrona2011 (talk) 07:01, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. I was just about to complain. I don't have access to edit photos though because of past vandalism and stuff, even thogh they still let me edit here even after over 40 blatant attempts at destroying articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.104.188.76 (talk) 02:46, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

it doesn't work that way in wikipedia. We can't just grab a copyrighted image. See Wikipedia:Image use policy. --rogerd (talk) 03:25, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

This talk page is a good illustration of how Wikipedia is not the Encyclopedia Brittanica

Readers, these are your editors. Five years ago the discussion revolved around some dumb parody a now-forgotten comedian did of this major American journalist and commentator. Soon came criticism of her hairstyle. The article is no deeper. Profhum (talk) 22:36, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

MILF?

Is AskMen's "Hottest MILF Newscaster" really worth including as an "award" in this section? Is it appropriate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.101.130.203 (talk) 04:42, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Ann wi;\ll be missed

I thought Ann CUrry did a wonderful job on the Today Show and the one day I missed you got the ax - I am so sorry! Please pop up somewhere cuz your reporting is right on. Take care!

Journalist or Propagandist

I question the use of the term "journalist" to describe Ann Curry. Consider this example of her "journalism": http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/44483606#44483606 Ahmadinejad never has a better press agent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.15.103 (talk) 18:51, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Is Ann Curry married to the Brian Ross who is a reporter/anchor with ABC News???

The bio states that Ann Curry is married to a "Brian Ross" but it is not linked to anything and it does not state that it is the Brian Ross of ABC News. Is is the same guy, or is she just married to some guy who also happens to be named "Brian Ross". If somebody knows, can they put it in? If he is not THE Brian Ross, I think in parentheses after his name it should state, "not Brian Ross of ABC News"). Thanks in advance to anybody who knows. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Betathetapi545 (talkcontribs) 18:30, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

It's not the same Brian Ross, but I would argue the opposite. It should be noted if it is the same one (and linked to his WP page) but not because her husband happens to have the same name as another prominent TV journalist. JTRH (talk) 10:22, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

No mention of firing/controversy?

Why does the article completely omit all of the controversy surrounding her departure? People are still mad about it. An article was published just today defending Matt Lauer against those who say he had a part in firing her. Even if it is all hearsay, it should be mentioned that there is in fact controversy and that many viewers were angered by her departure and believed it was dirty office politics that got her out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.83.129.3 (talk) 04:14, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

If it's hearsay, it doesn't belong in an encyclopedia. However, Brian Stelter of The New York Times has just published a book, Top of the Morning, about the whole controversy. 206.74.211.75 (talk) 18:18, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Someone should definitely mention "Operation Bambi." Doubledragons (talk) 02:59, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
You are right Ann was Fired from the Today Show but for some reason wikipedia would much rather sugar coat it and say that Ann left on her own instead of telling the truth. Stop lying Wikipedia Ann Curry was fired! Jacklondon13 (talk) 17:36, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Someone can start a new section on the article related to the controversy, but it has to have referenced citations, not just hearsay. Editors have been removing the "absolute truth" that she was fired since there is no verifiable documentation proving that occurred. This is not an attempt to sugar-coat anything, it is keeping the entry verifiable without substituting rumor for fact.--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 18:04, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
You kidding right? Exeryone knows Ann was fired from TODAY, It a fact. She didn't leave on her own. They pushed her out and removed her from the show. That means she was fired and they only said 'removed' to make sound better. Ann even herself said she did not want to leave and Brian Stelter has said the Producers wanted to axe her. I dont know what else you would call it. Jacklondon13 (talk) 19:10, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
You need to read WP:PROVEIT to understand what can be entered into an article. If you want to see the difference between "knowing" and "proving" see Wrongful execution.--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 21:06, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Postwar Fraternization Policy

While I understand how family lore--to use an Elizabeth Warren-ism--can influence memory and subsequent description of events, the article's implication that the U.S. Navy transferred Ann Curry's father out of Japan to prevent him from marrying a Japanese woman doesn't ring true. The no-fraternization policies applied in both Germany and Japan upon conclusion of hostilities were impossible to enforce and soon lifted. In Japan, the U.S. military and Japanese authorities actually collaborated on making Japan's extensive system of brothels available to U.S. soldiers, including health and hygeine checks, etc., in an effort to prevent the spread of STDs. The Japanese also hoped such a system would prevent U.S. personnel from commiting sexual assaults or actually forcing Japanese women into sexual slavery the way that the Japanese military had done with foreign women in the territories it occupied during the war. McArthur banned prostitution in 1946 and shut down the brothel system over concerns that many of the women and girls working in the clubs had been coerced into doing so, and due to moral/religious criticism within the military and back in the States. Interestingly, in Germany, where prostitution was still legal, no efforts were ever made to shut down the brothels frequented by Allied troops. While both U.S. authorities and Japanese society frowned on extensive fraternization between GIs and Japanese women, it was widespread, and not long before marriages started occurring. The Defense Department even made a great propaganda newsreel of the "first flight" of Japanese war brides arriving in the U.S. So while Ann Curry's Dad, if he was in Japan in the late 40's, might have encountered some degree of "don't get serious with these girls" admonition from his commanders, there was no policy of transferring soldiers or sailors out of Japan who had Japanese girldriends, finacees or brides, and indeed, thousands of marriages took place, often to the chagrin of traditional Japanese parents. I'm sure there's a great romantic story there of him coming back to marry his girlfriend, etc., but I really doubt that "transfer out of Japan" to prevent it was part of the tale. 124.33.208.179 (talk) 03:03, 1 January 2014 (UTC)TexxasFinn
