Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on September 5, 2009.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that in the initial Anglo-Italian Cup football tournaments, one point was awarded for every goal scored?
Current status: Good article

(No subject)[edit]

Please not that the Runner-Up in the 1973 final of the Anglo-Italian Cup was not Fiorentina but AS Roma !!!

Please check out the official history video of Newcastle United as there are tv black & white images of the final winning game (0-2 score at the Olimpic Stadium in Rome against AS Roma) !!! The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.193.172.200 (talk • contribs) 08:53, January 4, 2006.

According to [1] the final was definitely between Fiorentina and Newcastle; however, Newcastle did beat Roma 2-0 in the group stages of the competition, which is probably the match you saw on the video. Qwghlm 11:26, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

This review is transcluded from Talk:Anglo-Italian Cup. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Lead[edit]

  • 3 items? Expand this please. And we need sources for it.
  • Why is "Alitalia Challenge Cup", "Talbot Challenge Cup" and "Gigi Peronace Memorial" bolded?
  • Club's founder needs article.

History[edit]

  • "The Football League Cup was changed in 1967 so the winner would be awarded a place in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup." - How was it changed?
  • However, when Queens Park Rangers won the final that year they were in the Third Division and, at that time, UEFA did not allow third-tier teams to compete in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup - needs punctuations

Fix these first. I'll check the rest and post tomorrow (In case I forget, ping me on my talk page). The article looks good to me; it is likely that it'll pass. :) Pmlineditor  Talk 15:38, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't got much time today; will finish tomorrow. Pmlineditor  Talk 15:44, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead
  • I don't understand what you mean by "3 items?". However per Wikipedia:Lead_section#Length one paragraph is suitable for the lead as this article's length (~6200 characters) is well under 15000 characters. I'll try and add in another sentence perhaps. Additionally, inline citations in lead are not required per WP:LEADCITE as it is all sourced in the body of the article.
  • These are it's other names. From WP:BOLDTITLE: If the subject of the page has a common abbreviation or more than one name, the abbreviation (in parentheses) and each additional name should be in boldface on its first appearance.
  • That has never been a requirement, and isn't in FAs either. However, I'll endeavour to create one, but it likely won't be until the weekend.
An article on this person is coming along in my sandbox, however I rather busy at the moment and probably won't get it into mainspace this week. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 22:01, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History
  • It was changed so that "the winner would be awarded a place in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup" because before 1967 they didn't, I'll try and clarify this.

  • I find the fact that the text size is only 17K a bit concerning. Can you possibly add 1-2K text somewhere? Regards, Pmlineditor  Talk 15:40, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Checking the page, these are the main issues I find. They should be easy to fix, so ping me when you have done them. I'll give a look and will probably promote it. Pmlineditor  Talk 15:58, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
