Benton County Scenic Loop[edit]

I've been looking for a reliable source (as defined by WP:RS) to verify the claim in this article that Alsea is on the Benton County Scenic Loop. The cited source for this was trails.com, but the source didn't actually mention Alsea and only vaguely described the loop. A source that qualifies as RS, Backroads of Oregon by Rhonda and George Ostertag (2004), ISBN 0-89658-081-4, says on page 32: "From Benton County Courthouse in Corvallis, this 76-mile loop travels southward on Oregon Highway 99 West, turns west on Alpine Road, and adds a 10-mile spur to Alsea Falls, before heading north via Bellfountain Road, U.S. Highway 34, and Kings Valley Highway. Maxfield Creek Road and Arlie Road in neighboring Polk County take drivers back east to Highway 99 West." Since this route does not go through Alsea, I've deleted the claim and the supporting citation. Finetooth (talk) 04:05, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Wow, it's 2010 on Wikipedia already--Happy New Year!) As this is one of my early works (I systematically started with A, and got through...A), I must have been pulling vaguely Alsea-related facts out of my nether regions in order to fill the article out. And I sure wouldn't use trails.com anymore. Thanks for making the article better--it's nice to know someone reads them! BTW Finetooth, did you see I've been trying to take care of some of the redlinks on the various river articles? (e.g. Blooming, Shadowood) I got tired of doing freeways. Cheers! What on Earth are you doing editing on New Year's Eve? I thought I might be the only one to think that was a perfect way to spend the evening. I went to the bother of tracking down the Ostertag book because citation 6 was the only one left of the batch that made me twitchy. I actually bought the book because I had to go to Powell's anyway and pick up my copy of A Field Guide to American Houses, which you recommended to me a month or so ago. Now all I have to do is to stop editing long enough to read it. I had not noticed the disappearing redlinks, but I'm glad to hear about them. When I first started editing Wikipedia articles, I was very reluctant to redlink anything, but now that I have a better sense of what they're good for, I'm careful (I hope) but not reluctant.
