Reads like a resume[edit]

This article will need some serious editing. It doesn't read as an encyclopedia article. To the main author, wikipedia isn't a directory and there are far too many images--I'm sure there isn't copyright clearance for them all. A link to the artist's own website is enough to give access to images. Freshacconci 16:30, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problems[edit]

As per Wikipedia:Notability (people), an article about a Creative professional needs to reference published, third-party sources about the subject backing up one of one of the following criteria that pertains to artists:

The person's work either:
(a) has been displayed in a significant exhibition or as a monument (current article fails)
(b) has won significant critical attention (current article fails)
(c) is represented within the permanent collection of a significant gallery or museum of more than local significance. (current article fails)

If any of these notability citations exists they need to be added to the article or it may be listed for deletion.

There are some other problems. All the images have been put up by one editor (user:Bohemianart) with "Permission is granted to copy" tags. This means the images (and the article) have all been put up by the artist (the only person who can grant copyright status), or someone else has put them up. I've trimmed the article down to the main facts being asserted. It doesn't really amount to much in terms of notability. He is an artist, and he ran a gallery which once showed a work by Leon Golub.--Ethicoaestheticist 19:52, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just been looking through the Artists' Gallery website [1] and no sign of Leon Golub! Linder did exhibit in nearly every show, but no sign that he was the manager, let alone the owner - the gallery was a project-space partnered with Ward-Nasse Gallery [2], a more established and still existing artist-run gallery. The artist-bio on the Ward-Nasse site makes no claim, by the way, that Linder has works in the Smithsonian, Met etc. and I think they would, if it was the case. They also don't describe him setting up their sister project, the Artist's Gallery, which again they might be expected to mention. I've removed the details about artists exhibiting at the Artists' Gallery, which are irrelevant if he didn't run or own it.--Ethicoaestheticist 23:27, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing[edit]

I am the publisher of a new book on Linder's work titled Allan Linder 20th Century and beyond. Linder and his business partner Mr. Nasse were instrumental in exhibiting many emerging and already established artists in NYC. If this page is taken down it will do a great disservice to this artist and the New York art community. There are numerous quotes in this book regarding his co-ownership of the Artists Gallery Chelsea, and the number of important exhibitions and accomplishments that he has done. I noticed a comment that this new book was so easily dismissed as vanity press. We are a new upstart independent publisher based in New York. We do not charge our Authors to publish work. This is our first published book under this moniker. We will have 3 additional books coming out this year including a 400 page book on the pencil work and history of Linder. I will be sure to site the appropriate pages of this book for future reference.

I wish you well with the publishing venture, but the kind of things that justify an artist's encyclopedia entry are: works held in museum collections, significant coverage in third-party sources and/or awards won. I'm afraid the Eclectic Press publication still doesn't cut it with me. I should note though that the Artists' Gallery now refers to Linder as a co-founder [3], which is some improvement. --Ethicoaestheticist (talk) 00:27, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
