Origins[edit]

Another one of the early winners with fuzzy origins. Lord Rockingham usually kept detailed stud records (apparently not on this one). I wonder where the name Allabaculia first came from? None of the 18th century sources refer to her as this. My guess is that this horse is actually Rockingham's "Sampson Mare" out of the Regulus Mare out of Red Rose by Partner. Her first foal was delivered in 1778 which is about right and she descends from the Greyhound Mare as the good count suspected. As such she is the dam of Mayfly. All OR of course... Name[edit]

I wonder how it came that she was given a name retrospectively. The Colt by Fidget and the Filly by Selim didn't get the same treatment. I think I remember hearing that a racing historian decided that it was inappropriate that the inaugural winner of the "St Leger" should be unnamed.  Tigerboy1966  07:40, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
