Birth[edit]

this page shows two different birth years for Alex. Which is correct? Maladroitmortal 02:05, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Continuing this, I can't find a year of birth for him in any of the sources. Because of this I've removed the references to the year until a reliable source can be found. If anybody can find one please feel free to add the year of birth back in along with the source. Thanks. --ImmortalGoddezz 00:16, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

O'Lachlan[edit]

I've previously removed the reference to Alex O'Lachlan (it stated that he was born as O'Lachlan and later changed his name to O'Loughlin) since I cannot find any reliable sources that say this. When searching for O'Lachlan a number of results do show up however it seems that this is possibly just a spelling error more than an actual name change, though I could be wrong. If anybody can find a reliable and verifiable source that back up the claims that he changed his name please add it back in. --ImmortalGoddezz 17:39, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

His last name when he was at my primary school was actually Sculthorpe. Hope this helps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.173.14.176 (talk) 10:33, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Year of birth[edit]

As per ([1] [2]) Intelius searches, Alex O'Loughlin (aka Alexander R. O'Loughlin) is 34 years old, indicating 1973 as year of birth.

Using Intelius is/can be considered original research. --ImmortalGoddezz 16:57, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bon Scott[edit]

I've added the info about the rumor of O'Loughlin being Bon Scott's son back. My reasoning is that it was widely reported on, the information is sourced, and it doesn't detract from the article. Additional several online commentaries/blogs and other sources cite wikipedia as one of the originating sources for the rumor itself (Ex1, Ex 2), so I feel that it is better to leave this up than exclude it, personally. --ImmortalGoddezz 16:57, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship with Holly Valance[edit]

Edit request from 98.151.159.254, 3 June 2011[edit]

Should not be identifying his family "his childhood surname was ... which his mother and sister ... still retain. " It's irrelevant to the biography and erodes their privacy.

98.151.159.254 (talk) 01:21, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Wikipedia is not censored and viewers may find some information objectional. P.S.: Check on other famous celebrities, you will find even worse cases! GaneshBhakt (talk) 04:58, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely no evidence that his name has ever been anything other than O'Loughlin—surely unsourced info is not permitted on Wikipedia, and I can find nothing online that provides backup for this claim of a name change. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.21.36.215 (talk) 01:03, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Year (marked as dubious in the text)[edit]

I have reverted to a the year 1974 as his birth year, but marked it as dubious. All refs bar one were dead links, or unreliable. The only remaining ref just lists his age at the time of the news article, so can not really be considered reliable. I'll add "citation needed" to the other dates. We really need to find something that officially lists his date of birth, rather than relying on what we have used. Any help would be appreciated. --Dmol (talk) 23:28, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree. I am not happy using only Intelius to guess the actor's year of birth, although in this case given the attached employment background, it seems accurate. I searched and found no other valid or original or remotely reliable references. If the actor wishes to be coy about his birthname and year of birth then so be it, but if/when editors search for info using technology, mistakes may occur. In any event, any edit changing the year of birth from 1974 to another year (such as 1975 or 1976) must provide a reliable source or I will undo it. In an interview, Alex stated that he and Scott Caan were technically born at the same time as a result of where their home countries lie. Caan being born in 1976, in addition to O'Loughlin stating this proves that he was born in 1976. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.15.90.37 (talk) 18:41, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Even if he made that claim, it is wholly unreliable Hollywood publicity nonsense, which proves nothing at all. Quis separabit? 22:03, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey; you are violating WP:DOB by adding an unsourced birth year. Since you don't find one source reliable, I have no choice except to remove the birth year. We can't any further violate WP:BLP, WP:OR, and other policies and guidelines regarding the birth date. Which is reliable if article from The Age (Australia) is not reliable? If you want to add back the birth date, find reliable sources first. George Ho (talk) 06:37, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Height[edit]

It says his height is 6ft 2inches. I met him and he is a lot shorter than that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.178.31.171 (talk) 21:30, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Birth year issue[edit]

Bmclaughlin9, can you explain the removal of birth year dispute and confirmation of his birth year, 1976? George Ho (talk) 08:26, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A single source that gives AO an age that contradicts a documented date of birth does not support the statement that "other years have also been cited". The source in question provided not a single year. If his birth year is in dispute that assertion should be properly sourced.

Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 20:29, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Age says, Bmclaughlin9, that he was 34 years old in 2009, implying 1975. George Ho (talk) 23:35, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
What if he turned 35 later in 2009? That would imply 1974. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 01:19, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging Rms125a and Taylor about this. George Ho (talk) 00:30, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Bmclaughlin9, @Taylor Trescott, @JackofOz, and @George Ho -- well this is really old hat, but I still stand by 1974. Whatever. If he wants to hide his year of birth, it's no longer a biggie, for me, anyway. Thanks for the ping and the updates. Happy New Year, y'all. Quis separabit? 02:05, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Retirement ?[edit]

I was under the impression that Hawaii Five-O mainly ended due to O'Loughlin having severe back pain from an earlier 'accident' while filming Five-O.

I was also under the impression that, due to said back pain, O'Loughlin retired from acting.

I tend to think his retirement is true since I've not found any evidence of any roles since Five-O ended.

Anybody know differently ? 184.103.51.157 (talk) 21:22, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
