"In 1871, the National Association became the first professional baseball league. Thake joined the league in 1872 as a left fielder for the Brooklyn Atlantics." - maybe both of these sentences can be merged together

Death[edit]

Place of death[edit]

I don't know which newspaper this ran in, but a clipping has survived which states that Thake's body was found on a beach in Staten Island, not Brooklyn. He died while fishing near Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, which is located near what is now known as the Verazzano Narrows. Timothy Horrigan (talk) 15:26, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
