Ancestral heritage[edit]

The article states that Schottelkotte is of Dutch descent, but a quick look from a genealogy site shows that his great-grandparents are listed as coming from Prussia. Given my research for my own families, I suspect his family name is from northwestern Germany in the Hannover region which was, at one point, part of Prussia. When his great-grandparents emigrated to the U.S., it was likely considered Prussia. But it's not Dutch. Of course, Cincinnatians of German ancestry often call themselves "Dutch," but it comes from "Deutsch" for the language of Deutschland.
