Achwa → Achwa River – The convention for naming river articles globally as well as in Uganda is to include the term "River." See List of rivers of Uganda. The various Nile forks are an exception. There seems to be no reason for an exception for Achwa. Further, multiple nearby settlements in both UG and SS using the very similar and most likely derivative name Aswa (cf UN map of UG, UN map of SS so labeling the river more clearly is valuable. Oppose - it is an unnecessary disambiguation, even if for some reason it is common in Wikipedia. The disamb should only be used when necessary e.g. Mississipi. If disambiguation is necessary it should be applied to the name of lesser importance but that needs another discussion, including the question of whether rivers in Uganda should be named with river as a postfix or as a prefix (i.e. British style). Also Category:Rivers of Uganda contains two members that have WP names with the postfix 'River', one member with the prefix 'River' as well as the White Nile which is titled without the term. - Comment Changing all of these to British convention in order to adhere to colonial propriety is anachronistic at best. The List of rivers of Tanzania, List of rivers of Kenya, List of rivers of South Sudan show that the rest of Anglophone East Africa overwhelmingly includes "River" as a postfix.
- Further, Google books over twice as many exact phrase hits for Achwa River (about 80) and Aswa River (about 880) than for River Achwa (about 39) and River Aswa (about 285).
- Finally, "Achwa" alone referred to a village and sub-county in UG's Amuria District,[1] which is distinct from the Aswa location discussed above, but is now spelled Acowa [2]. Keitsist (talk) 01:20, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Support. In general, countries with a strong English-language heritage always include the word "river" in river titles, whether before or prior the "name" and regardless of primary topic concerns, e.g. the American river Dosewallips is clearly at an unambiguous name, yet the article is at Dosewallips River.
