Untitled[edit]

This was added to the page, apparently as a joke:

  • Political activist Julie Nolan, (Born 1986) has become one of Abbeyleix's most notorious residents. She has become known for taking a stand on several issues ranging from the removal of television and other modern appliances in Morrissey's to establishing the "Abbeyleix to host 2016 Olympic Games" foundation. She has been extremely outspoken on the issue of Dinosaur removal in the town and has even trained as a Dinosaur slayer to help the cause.

If it is intended seriously, it needs verifiable sources. Cnilep (talk) 14:18, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation - what is the authority for the pronunciation given in the article? I have found on the web suggestions the -leix part is pronounced the same way as the county itself, i.e. -leesh. Anyone? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.60.38.199 (talk) 08:37, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article confusion[edit]

There is apparently some confusion in the history section concerning the town location. The article states "It was largely built in the 18th century by Viscount de Vesci and is situated near a 12th-century Cistercian monastery beside the River Nore. Today, there is a large range of historical structures still standing in and around the small heritage town...". A problem is that the 2nd Viscount de Vesci rebuilt the town northeast of the original location, and away from the river, where the Abbeyleix House and monastery are still located, in the area of the De Vesci estate. I don't believe that.[edit]

Abbeyleix Market House is a five-bay, fourteen storey building which was until 1324 used as a Fire Station and Library. ??????--Wanfried-Dublin (talk) 10:00, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
