He did not win the Filmfare best actor award for Rang de basanti as has been mentioned on the page. Please update.

User Elyaqim put an Arabic script version of Aamir Khan's name on the English page. As this is provocative in the context of Indian politics, I have moved this notation

(عامر حسین خان)

to the discussion page. Either we have both Arabic and Devanagari script, or we have neither. To do otherwise is rabble-rousing.

Why is the Devanagari script still there while the Arabic has been removed? Fkh82 02:31, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Because he's Indian and not an arab.--Dangerous-Boy 08:01, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Urdu is written in Arabic script, it has nothing to do with being an Arab. And isn't Urdu one of India's official languages?Fkh82 21:13, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it is one of the official languages. Just put the urdu after the devanagari, i mean, Khan is an urdu name. Basawala 19:55, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Using Devnagri script doesn't seem right. The "Kh" sound is not properly recognized in Hindi (if at all, it needs a "bindi" or dot under the first letter). The name isn't in Hindi, so the Hindi script isn't right, it should be in the proper Persian script (not Arabic) to have the proper pronunciation. -AA
I really do not understand why is there is such a big argument on this. What's wrong in having the name in Hindi. I feel both the Hindi and Urdu way is required as one is the national language and the other is his mother tongue. I have added the hindi version as per "AA" with the so called 'bindi'. It is my request that both the types remain and not remove it. Most of the other popular Indian people with muslim names have it in hindi and urdu in Wikipedia, hence i feel it is good to stop this argument here.- ifesvr (talk) 18:04, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Career of Aamir

It seems that every movie Aamir acts in is only "moderately successful". It is as if someone who is not really neutral in his views about Aamir has scripted that part of the page. Could someone please look into the successes of his movies and accordingly appreciate his contribution to the Indian film industry?

Eg: Dil Chahta Hai was a blockbuster, no two ways about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Svmandke (talkcontribs) 04:50, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Aamir Khan's blog

I added a link to AAmir Khan's blog (http://www.aamirkhan.com/blog.htm) but that link has been removed three times by User:Shshshsh. I have been following Aamir Khan's blog since 2005 and the URL above is his current blog and on his official website.

I put a message on User:Shshshsh 's User_talk:Shshshsh page (and also sent him an email) asking him to discuss the blog before removing the link. But he went ahead and removed it anyway. He mentioned that Aamir Khan's blog is not important enough to be put in the "External Links" section. I then pointed out to him (on his user talk page and via email) that actor pages on Wikipedia do have links to their blogs. Example: Alec Baldwin. I also asked him to point me to the Wikipedia Guidelines page which says that an actor's blog cannot be on the External Links section of the actor's Wikipedia page.

I have not reverted User:Shshshsh 's edit yet. I am hoping to discuss with him to sort out this disagreement. Insight from anybody on how to resolve this issue will be really appreciated. --Maisnam (talk) 21:39, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Edit request from 86.21.87.134, 19 May 2010

He has three siblings Faisal, Farhat, and Nikhat. The film industry was part of his life growing up as many members of his family were a part of it like his father, his late uncle Nasir Hussain, and his cousin Mansoor Khan. It was Mansoor Khan’s Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak that brought him success.

Aamir’s family roots can be traced back to Afghanistan. He is said to be a descendant of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad who was a scholar and political leader and Dr.Zakir Hussain, the former President of India. Dr.Najma Heptullah, who was a Chairperson in the Rajya Sabha is his second cousin.

Even as his first hit Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak made him an overnight heartthrob across the country, he married his sweetheart Reena Dutta secretly as their parents opposed the marriage. She even made a blink-and-you-will-miss appearance in his song Papa Kehte Hai in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. They have two children Junaid and Ira. The couple filed for divorce in 2002. Soon after, in 2005 he married Kiran Rao, who was an assistant director on the sets of Lagaan.

Aamir was honoured with the Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India in 2003. He turned down the offer to replicate him in wax by Madame Tussaud’s. He was also a tennis champion representing the state of Maharashtra.

Aamir Khan's first National Film Award and nomination of movie 'Lagaan' for Academy award are worth mentioning. But User:Shshshsh is reverting edits. Please discuss why edits by anon IP be not included. रामा (talk) 20:49, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

I did not revert - I copyedited. I mentioned that Lagaan is Oscar-nominated. I for one do not think Raakh is a notable enough film in his career and a special jury mention is not that big a deal. ShahidTalk2me 10:00, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Your individual opinion, POV, does not matter. While writing biography of person, his/her achievement deserve mention to explain graph of his/her career. I appreciate your contribution to wikipedia but do not try to monopolize articles related to hindi cinema. I will revert your edit. Please take the matter to admim if you disagree. Thanks! रामा (talk) 10:22, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
First, calm down, because your opinion does matter either. Please be aware of WP:EW. I don't mind mentioning Raakh and his win but my other copyedits are essential for the article. It does not matter that Lagaan is the third Indian film to get an Academy Award nomination. To call it an Academy Award-nominated film is sufficient. Also, mentioning the names of directors and the fact that Mansoor Khan is his cousin is not important for the lead. The lead is there to summarise the article. And I hope for you that you are not that same anon, because if a check shows it, you will be blocked for sock puppetry. ShahidTalk2me 11:04, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Information added to articles needs to include reliable sources for verification. None of your edits included sources. You also included a number of peacock terms (e.g. "critical acclaim", "huge success") and commentary ("eventually being declared a super-hit due to the massive youth content and connect") which is not neutral and is also lacking sources. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 16:48, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

New Section - Untrodden Paths

I am planning to start a new section, which is going to have some facts related to untrodden paths taken by Aamir khan. Definitely he is much more than a star/actor/professional. Take for example this story Aamir Khan attends rickshaw driver's son's wedding which we can't or see rarely with other actors and high profile people. His ideology and take towards India in Aamir Khan urges government to focus on education, nutrition in Union Budget 2012. His topics of focus in coming show Satyamev Jayate (TV show). His role in copyright panel and controversies related. Their are many more, which clearly shows him out of stereotype actor. But I don't know any article which is having/ not having such sections, probably due to absence of such activities in their life. Also I don't have any idea regarding Wikipedia policy regarding this(in my view there would not be any violation). Please do express your views regading the same. JPMEENA (talk) 18:20, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

I fell better name the section "Social Activities" or something like that. So many social issues involved Khan are there worth mentioning. Like his support in Jan Lokpal Bill Movement and Narmada Bachao Andolan, His views on Child labour, Girl's Education in india, Environmental issues, and so on. Here. Is some sources and details: Fanaa_(film)#Controversy, Aamir Khan lends his support for the Narmada Bachao Andolan, Aamir on Narmada: I won't apologise,Everyone lobbies for bills, what is wrong if people put pressure? Aamir Khan questions. I think we should also add something about his efforts on marketing his movies. Especially about 3 idiots. here is a source:Why Aamir Khan is a marketing genius @ forbes rahul (talk2me) 04:20, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
ok, I got you. There are many such stories which have never been found in sphere of life of others. Still the question of importance of section and its feasibility under Wiki guidelines remains open. Discussion is open!! JPMEENA (talk) 05:10, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Its common to have such section in bio articles. For example: Preity_Zinta#Humanitarian work Angelina Jolie#Humanitarian work Brad_Pitt#Humanitarian and political causes These are some featured articles. In the case of notability, personaly i dont feel the wedding incident is notable enough. Other incidents which got national/international media coverage is definitly notable. As per WP:BLP the section must be neutral and verifiable. Just try to convey facts. I hope that will be enough to go with WP guidelines. And it will be good to know if any other editors are interested on this.. rahul (talk2me) 10:01, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Thank you rahul, for you research/ help. Then I am set to start this section.JPMEENA (talk) 17:15, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Restructuring

As a member of Indian cinema task force i have signed up for, contributing to this article Here. I will try my level best, to make this article a FA candidate. So first things first, I propose a restructuring of the article into the following structure:

Lead
1 Early life
2 Career
2.1 Actor
2.1.1 Debut and child actor (1973-74)
2.1.2 Holi and other initial roles (1984-87)
2.1.3 Initial Commercial Success and rise to stardom ( 1988-96)
2.1.4 Non-mainstream Appearances and moderate successes (1997- 2000)
2.1.5 Lagaan and return to prominence (2001)
2.1.6 Four year break (2001-05)
2.1.6 Comeback and major commercial and critical successes ( 2006-08)
2.1.7 3 Idiots and other projects (2009-present)
2.2 Director
2.3 Producer
2.4 Television
3 In the media
3.1 Public image and artistry
3.2 Humanitarian and political causes
3.2 Controversies
4 Personal life
4.1 Relationships and family
4.2 Other activities

5 Awards, nominations and Honors 6 Filmography

6.1 Actor
6.2 Producer
6.3 Writer/Director

I am open to suggestions and ideas, i think it will be better if we develop some sort of consensus on this matter, as i will start working on this article after 3-4 weeks. Bineet Ojha |BINEET| 16:40, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

I would say that its a great thought and initiative by you and would suggest that go ahead and get started on the article. Don't bother too much about the headings and layout and first start collecting as much information you can. Categorize the URL's collected and post them all in the talk page for others to refer. I'm sure others will surely join in. Best of luck !!! ...Msrag talk2me 05:09, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
  • its a great idea. I can see that you have taken cue from some of the other better rated articles. Rajnikanth and kamal hassan, both GA status have a similar structure. That's the way to go. Take a cue from better written articles and strive for perfection. Mr. Perfectionist deserves a perfect wiki article. I'm with you. The only thing. Try not to perform wholesome edits in the article itself. Use your sandbox. Develop the article section by section. When a section is ready, paste it in the article after having a consensus over the particular section. For example, first write early life, when a consensus is reached that the section is good enough, paste it in the article and then start working on 'debut and child actor' section in the sandbox. Post the sandbox link here so that everybody can work on it. A lead is the summary of the whole article giving a brief review of what to expect below. So it is always better and easier to write the lead in the last. Skagrawal4k (talk) 18:06, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Rang de Basanti is not the highest grossing Indian film of 2006 !!!

According to my check of boxofficeindia.com, Aamir khan's movie is ranked eighth (8th) and is categorized as a "hit", whereas Shahrukh's movie Don fared better and was ranked fifth (5th). Infact the top grosser was the blockbuster movie Dhoom2 for the year 2006 that raked in 80,25,00,000 Indian rupees!

Correct me if I'm wrong.

How does not believing in "rituals" equate to being atheist? --Geniac (talk) 01:45, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
It doesn't. There are many modern people of all religions who do not accept the efficacy of religious rituals, but maintain their religious identity. They may observe rituals for reasons of culture, tradition and performance, without truly "believing" literally that rituals affect reality objectively. Which image should be used in the infobox? This one? (Taken 2013) or This one? (Taken 2014) - Rahat (Talk * Contributions) 13:30, 7 January 2015 (UTC)i

In general, I prefer an image that shows the person "at the top of their game" and if they are still active, a newer image. I think both images qualify on both scores and would not favor one over the other based on only a one year difference. I favor the 2013 image as expressing more personality, and better portraying his facial features. In addition, I prefer the 2013 image artistically Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:32, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
The 2013 image is a better head shot, of a higher quality, and is recent enough. -- KRIMUK90  06:55, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

On Intolerance

Hi,

I had added a quote from Aamir Khan with his clarifications in the "On Intolerance" section. Today, I found that it had been removed. Can someone explain why? I added it because it gave balance to the topic. There is quote with his original comments but there is no quote with his clarifications. I think it is necessary to add a quote of his clarifications, as of now there is no text that addresses this.

I will put up the comments in a short while! NumerounovedantTalk 18:12, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Suggest Peer Review and Re-nomination
  • There are numerous issues with this article and I suggest a Peer Review, as substantial work is required in the article!
  • Lead
  • There are issues with the quality of prose, use of noun and pronouns and basic structural issues.
  • Lead should lose all the references and they should be incorporated into the prose.
  • Early Life
  • Quality issues with prose-

"Khan" has been overused, no or rare pronouns have been incorporated.

  • "Khan's parents opposed to his joining films due to their own experiences, wishing that he would instead pursue a "steady" career of an engineer or doctor" - awkward phrasing.
  • Career
  • Refrences throughout the article are missing at crucial points and cluttered in places. The former is the case with the whole career section. Movie like Raja Hindustani, and Ishq among others have no refrences.
  • Quality of prose is sub-par.
  • Film Production and direction
  • Poorly sourced, evident from the first paragraph itself.
  • In the media
  • The entire first paragraph is unsourced.
  • Quality issues.
  • "On intolerance" - Needs a lot of work, cleanup, trimming and re-phrasing.
  • Haven't even gone through the refrences yet, but chechlinks shows 5 dead links, too many format issues, broken links, and error plague the article. NumerounovedantTalk 18:46, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
Final Comments

This article honestly needs a lot if work and because if it's size I suggest a WP:PR for it. Waiting for the response, but the article is nowhere near WP:GA standard. NumerounovedantTalk 18:46, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

I think a section needs to be added on his plagurised films. Hes had a few films which have been taken from Hollywood and i think these need to be mentioned in the article. In particular Lagaan as he was responsible for the script.

Lead problems

@Maestro2016: first of all there is problem that you never give an edit summary for any of your edits. You are using an opinion piece for making exceptional claims about Aamir Khan, about which I had highlighted on your talk page[4] but you haven't responded. You are also violating MOS:OPENPARA by listing very minor occupations that doesn't really impact his biography. Then you have dedicated some of that lead to his work as assistant director or movie producer. Why you are even making positive points by singling out some facts about the specific shows or movies where he worked? For example you made lengthy points about Satyamev Jayate. That's not ideal for lead. For these many factors I had reverted your lead. Now don't reinsert and let others check the lead first. I had also notified the film's wikiproject. Raymond3023 (talk) 16:38, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

The main source for that statement was Newsweek, which described him as "biggest movie star on the planet", and the source does not indicate that it's an opinion piece. MOS:OPENPARA is only referring to the opening paragraph, not the rest of the lead. His work as a film producer, talk show host and activist are highly notable. As for other issues you mentioned, they can be improved upon or trimmed down, but completely reverting everything is unnecessary. Maestro2016 (talk) 17:00, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
Please see the lead of featured articles like "Shahrukh Khan". He is actually qualified enough to be called a "businessman" but the article doesn't seem to be calling him that. Neither his IPL work or any movies are being detailed in lengths. I am only providing you an example how lead is written. Raymond3023 (talk) 17:03, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
In that case, maybe the lead should be rewritten along the lines of the SRK article. Maestro2016 (talk) 17:31, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
I have made an attempt to rewrite the lead along the lines of the SRK article. Feel free to let me know what you think. Maestro2016 (talk) 18:06, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
Ok I saw that, we can still wait for others output. Raymond3023 (talk) 18:31, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

On January 20, 2016 a twitter exchange took place between actress Sunny Leone and Aamir Khan. Aamir Khan had stood up in support of Sunny Leone and told her that he would love to work with her. This tweet was written in response to the public shaming of Sunny Leone by a CNN IBN News anchor Mr. Bhupendra Chaubey. During this interview, he had questioned her professional choices and expected her to feel ashamed of having worked in the porn industry. He opined that actors like Aamir Khan would probably not work with her. Sunny thanked Aamir Khan for his willingness to work with her on Twitter. Add the folloing in the "Personal life" section to the end of the para staring with "practicing muslims ...he became vegan, etc":

He has confessed that the Jainism has profound impact on him due to its values of forgiveness, nonviolence, pluralism and sustainable utilisation of resources.[2] 222.164.212.168 (talk) 20:36, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

Not done for now: The provided source says that Jainism has had an impact on him, but does not claim that he actually practices the religion. I'm not sure this comment is significant enough for inclusion in the article, and would like to see consensus that this is relevant here first. Bradv🍁 06:00, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
