Does the novel deserve its own article?[edit]

As the plot of the novel is of necessity somewhat different than the film versions, should it have its own article and a dab page? Or perhaps just more here? Rlquall 22:57, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, novel deserves it's own article, and a second article started for the 1956 film. And we now have one. I have forked the original article and edited three articles for this subject, to Start+ class:
Do I deserve a Barnstar, or what? Cheers, Wikipedians!

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was move per request. No apparent primary topic so the dab page will be moved here.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:34, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Kiss Before DyingA Kiss Before Dying (1991 film) — The article about the 1991 film should not be the default "A Kiss Before Dying" page. If anything, the 1956 film has a better claim to that, but I think best would be if the default redirected to the disambiguation page. I attempted to perform these changes, naively thinking I could do so with an intermediate rename of the first to "A Kiss Before Dying (temp)" not realizing the system would create an additional redirect page that I couldn't suppress. So there is a superflous page now that needs deleting also. Sorry about that. Ericjs (talk) 23:58, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Support I am not familiar with these films or the novel myself, but it's not clear that any of them can claim to be the primary meaning. PatGallacher (talk) 15:48, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support move per nom. Not sure about the dab page, since the novel is arguably the primary topic. PC78 (talk) 13:11, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • The basic definition of a primary topic is, "What are readers much more likely to expect when they search for the given term?" The source material of one or more adaptations can sometimes be a primary topic, but it is also the case that an adaptation may be much more well-known than the source material. The film Road to Perdition and its comic book source material Road to Perdition (comics) are an example of this setup. Readers are more likely to look for the film article than the comic book article. Erik (talk | contribs) 15:59, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't really know enough about any version of A Kiss Before Dying to say for sure, hence my "not sure" comment above. However, the novel apears to be the award-winning debut of a notable writer and has multiple film adaptations, while neither film seems particuarly significant at first glance. I have no strong opinion on the matter though, and it isn't technically part of this move request anyway. PC78 (talk) 17:59, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
