Fair use rationale for Image:AFCPort.jpg[edit]

Image:AFCPort.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

AFC = Association Football Club[edit]

I assume the AFC in AFC Portchester's name stands for Association Football Club? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarumio (talkcontribs) 14:30, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not necessarily. Normally the A in A.F.C. will stand for Association, sometimes it's something else (see A.F.C. Subdury), or sometimes it officially is just a set of initials that doesn't stand for anything - see A.F.C. Wimbledon) - fchd (talk) 15:05, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know of the differences with Sudbury and the Wombles. That still doesnt answer the question about Portchester specifically though? And if it stands for nothing even in the full name of the club - the periods should be removed between the letters A F and C. Sarumio (talk) 16:04, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The full stops don't necessarily need to be removed - Wikipedia does not always adhere to using unusual and non-standard typographical names of organisations. Check through the talk page archives of the Football WikiProject for a number of discussions over using the full stops or not in club names. I think the last consensus was that practice differs from country to country, and for U.K. clubs the full stops are usually used. After an admittedly quick peruse of their website, I can't see any evidence that the letters definitely do stand for anything, so in my opinion leaving it as A.F.C. is the best option, unless anything else could be cited. - fchd (talk) 16:23, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Saw a different version of "AFC" on Saturday - the entrance board at Cheddar said "Cheddar Associated Football Club" although everywhere else it was just Cheddar F.C. - fchd (talk) 18:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
