Jeff Garcia[edit]
The article on Jeff Garcia makes no mention of such a pass while he was with Cleveland and instead sugggests he had a poor season.
Confusion[edit]
Pardon my ignorance, but what is being measured here? Surely not the distance the football was thrown. Is it from where the quarterback was standing to the goal line? Or from the line of scrimage to the goal line? Northwestgnome (talk) 15:18, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- These plays were ones where the quarterback threw from the end zone. The pass went varying distances to the receiver, who ran for a touchdown. The line of scrimmage was the 1 yard line. Thus the record books and spportswriters call it a 99 yard pass. In the ones I have looked up in old newspapers so far, the pass ranged from 3 to 44 yards. Passing from the end zone is extremely risky, since an interception is likely to result in the other team scoring immediately or in the 4 play series. It is more likely as a desparation play by a losing team late in the game. I've found no cases, and expect to find none, where a QB threw the ball from one end zone to a receiver in the other end zone. There is also some uncertainty as to exactly what yard line the receiver was on when he caught it, like Studstill's reception being on the 44 or 45 per UPI and AP respectively. Clarity for the table[edit]
In the table for each 99-yd pass, it is not readily apparent which team accomplished the feat. One would have to click on either the QB or WR to see which team he was playing on for that year that the 99-yd pass occurred on. Kinda cumbersome.
