Periodic?[edit]

Is there any particular reason the page is named "Periodic" election? There's many other states or countries with staggered election for their houses, yet it's the first time I see this term used.--Aréat (talk) 16:34, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

They do, but they also refer to them as periodic elections. The first page says "Periodic elections apply instead where a number of seats go to election each May in a rotation set to complete the fixed six year term for each seat." The second page says "Periodic Legislative Council elections are held on the first Saturday in May each year". --Canley (talk) 01:15, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Constitution Act 1934 refers consistently to the similar "periodical elections". I'm sure you can find many official pages and documents which don't use the term "periodic", but I think it is worth distinguishing these in the title from the general (state) elections (particularly when there is a general election in the same year). --Canley (talk) 02:29, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

While I do not think this matters all that much, I would come down on the side of keeping periodic in. There are many pages that contain descriptors of the election, either legislative, general or something else. This is not necessarily the official name of the election, but a useful description of the election. So too herePlaylet (talk) 04:14, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
