Playoff Seeding[edit]

According the the OWL website,

  • "Six teams qualify directly for the Playoffs based on their regular season records."

This contradicts the cited info in this article:

  • "The top six season playoff teams will be determined by the same way they were in 2018; the top two teams from each division and the next four teams, regardless of division."

Should we take what is taken on the OWL website as correct? Pbroks13 (talk) 15:02, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

      • I don't necessarily see it as contradictory. Pulling the top two teams from each division is still using their regular season records. However, I'd wait until we get to the actual Stage 1 players in 3-4 weeks to verify. --Masem (t) 15:05, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's not necessarily a hard contradiction, but if the top six teams were from only the ATL or only the PAC division, these statements are not equivalent (although it is a very unlikely scenario). According to the OWL website, Stage Playoffs do indeed include the top two division leaders:
  • "Eight teams will qualify, including the two division leaders in that stage, along with the next six teams in the stage standings regardless of division."
So, that will unfortunately not give any insight into how the Season Playoff teams are determined. (On a side note, I also have this issue with the tiebreakers. There are situations where they haven't covered! Perhaps there is a rule book floating around somewhere?)
EDIT: Of course there is a rule book, here. I will have to read through it later today. Pbroks13 (talk) 15:27, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"Division winners of each Stage will be awarded seeds one and two and the remaining Teams (regardless of Division) will receive seeds three through eight according to their Stage records. " under 5.7 about stage playoffs. If you got that off Blizzard's sites, we should include that as an EL for this page. --Masem (t) 15:30, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
