Flags? or no flags?[edit]

We've got flags listed here for players' clubs. But for almost all squads (with some exceptions, e.g., Fiji), the players are entirely domestic based. So we're just repeating the same flag 12–14 times.

Should we get rid of the flags for some or all of the teams? For other tournaments squad lists, we've sometimes omitted flags where the team is entirely domestic based. See e.g., 2017 Rugby Championship, where the two teams with foreign players have flags and the two teams without foreign players have no flags.

This has probably been discussed at a talk page somewhere, although I cannot find it on the WP:RU main talk page. If anyone is aware of a good discussion on this already, feel free to provide the link. Thanks. CUA 27 (talk) 10:59, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

These are modelled from the squad listings as seen on the 2016 Olympics page, though admittedly I don't quite have the complete picture of the squads this year's players are currently participating in (I sincerely appreciate any contributions on that front too). I suppose it does make sense to remove the flags if it's the same country as the team, though I can also leave that up to debate. GrafVonTirol (talk) 01:47, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GrafVonTirol — Thanks for flagging where you modeled this from. (And thanks for all your work on this page by the way). After a bit more digging, I believe this discussion re 2015 RWC squads was the genesis for the format we see in other rugby tournament articles where we don't list flags for all-domestic squads. I'm guessing the reason for the different standard for the 2016 Olympics is that we have slightly different sets of editors working on rugby 7s vs rugby 15s pages, and it looks like the Olympics page editors did not discuss this issue. Between this article and the three participants in the 2015 RWC discussion, we have five editors who think it makes sense not to include flags for all-domestic teams. I'll plan to start removing the flags from this article unless there are objections.
I may also post a note at the WikiProject Rugby union Style Guide or on the WikiProject Rugby union talk page linking to these two discussions, so that others in the future don't need to dig for prior discussions. Any thoughts on that? CUA 27 (talk) 14:47, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
