  • 1982 - Tropical Storm 02B made landfall in India near Paradip, killing 140 people and destroying half a million homes.
  • 2010 - Cyclone Phet struck eastern Oman, dropping heavy rainfall across normally arid areas; the storm killed 47 people and left US$861 million in damage.
  • 2014 - Tropical Storm Boris makes landfall over in Southwestern Mexico as a weak system, killing a total of six people and US$46.8 million worth of damages.

  • 2006 - Cyclone Gonu (pictured) became the strongest tropical cyclone on record in the Arabian Sea, with 3-minute winds of 155 km/h (100 mph); two days later, Gonu struck the Arabian Peninsula, killing 49 people and causing about $4 billion of damage.
  • 2012 - Typhoon Mawar reaches peak intensity as a Category 3 typhoon.
  • 2014 - Tropical Storm Boris makes landfall over Southwestern Mexico and kills 6 people with US$46.8 million in damages.

  • 1934 - A hurricane struck what is now Belize after looping across Central America. The storm killed at least 516 people along its path.
  • 1989 - Typhoon Dot (track pictured) reached peak strength as a Category 3 while nearing landfall over in Hainan, causing 8 deaths and CN¥170 million (US$45.1 million) of damages.
  • 1998 - A cyclone struck the Indian state of Gujarat, killing at least 4,000 people.

  • 1974 - Typhoon Dinah made landfall on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Dinah killed 73 people in the Philippines, Hainan and Vietnam.
  • 1991 - Cyclone Gritelle (pictured) became a named system, making it the strongest system within the south-west Indian Ocean to form in the month of June, as well as the latest in the cyclone year to be properly named.

  • 1997 - Cyclone Keli, the first post-season tropical cyclone to form in June, reaches peak strength while affecting the Pacific Islands.
  • 2004 - Tropical Storm Chanthu (pictured) made landfall in Vietnam, killing seven people. Chanthu caused over 230 mm (9.4 in) of rain.
  • 2014 - Hurricane Cristina reaches peak intensity as a Category 4 major hurricane.

  • 2014 - Tropical Storm Hagibis (pictured) makes landfall over in southern China killing 11 people with damages totaled up to CN¥815 million (US$131 million).

  • 2004 - Typhoon Dianmu reached its peak intensity with a central pressure of 915 hPa (mbar) to the south of Japan. Dianmu killed three people a few days later there.
  • 2012 - Hurricane Carlotta makes landfall over in southern Mexico. Damages were recorded at about $12.4 million.
  • 2015 - Tropical Storm Bill (pictured) forms southeast of Texas before rapidly making landfall.

  • 1971 - Hurricane Bridget passed just to the south of Acapulco, Mexico bringing gusts of 100 mph (155 km/h) to the city. Many ships, including some naval ships, were sunk killing 40 people and causing $40 million of damage.
  • 2012 - Typhoon Guchol (pictured) attains Category 4 super typhoon intensity with a minimum pressure of 930 hPa with 1-minute sustained winds of 240 km/h (150 mph).

  • 1985 - Typhoon Hal moves onshore Hong Kong as a weakening typhoon killing 53 people.
  • 1993 - Typhoon Koryn reached its peak intensity with a central pressure of 910 hPa (mbar) in the Philippine Sea.
  • 2010 - Hurricane Celia (pictured) reaches Category 5 hurricane intensity, making one of a few systems in the East Pacific to reach that intensity in the month of June.

  • 1972 - Typhoon Ora made landfall in Luzon in the Philippines killing 131 people.
  • 2012 - Tropical Storm Debby (pictured) reaches peak intensity with winds of 100 km/h (65 mph) before it makes landfall over in Florida, killing seven people with damages worth of $250 million.

  • 1989 - Tropical Storm Allison hit Texas; associated flooding caused about $560 million of damage and 11 deaths.
  • 2008 - Cyclone Yemyin (pictured) moved ashore southern Pakistan; heavy rainfall killed hundreds of people, including 730 people in Pakistan alone.

  • June 28, 1966 - Typhoon Kit (track pictured) passed just to the east of Honshu, Japan killing at least 44 people.


  • June 30, 2015 - Cyclone Raquel (pictured) enters the Australian basin and was recognized as the only known instance of a tropical cyclone during July in the region since the satellite era began and as a byproduct of becoming a tropical cyclone on the first day of the new cyclone year, it marked the earliest start to a season in the basin on record. The system subsequently became the first tropical cyclone in the South Pacific Ocean during the month of July since reliable records started as the storm exited the basin.
