The BB 1500 were a class of 1,500 V DC Bo′Bo′ electric locomotives, built for the Chemins de fer du Midi by Constructions Électriques de France (CEF). Along with the BB 1600 they constituted the first generation of 'BB Midi' locomotives.
Service[edit]
The locomotives were introduced between 1926 and 1928. They remained in main-line service until the 1950s when they were relegated to use as shunting locomotives. The final locomotives had been withdrawn by 1979.[1]
Original numbered as E 4001 to E 4040 by the Midi, they initially became BB 4001 – BB 4040 under SNCF before being incorporated in the new numbering scheme as BB 1501 – BB 1540.[2]
Preservation[edit]
E 4002 is preserved at Cité du train, Mulhouse.[a]
Models[edit]
The BB 1500s have been reproduced in H0 scale by Electrotren and Jouef.
Notes[edit]
- ^ BB 1632 at the Cité du train of Mulhouse, in grey livery and carrying the original Midi number, E 4002, consists of 'an old BB 1500 on which the bodyside panels of 1632 have been added.'[citation needed]
