Ryanair Flight 5542 was a regularly scheduled flight from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Dublin Airport.[1]

But while landing at Dublin airport the airplane's nose wheel blew, and sparks were visible.[2] When the plane came to a stop on runway 28, all passengers evacuated and after 40 minutes airport buses came to serve as a taxi to the airport terminal.[3] The airplane was repaired and began service again on 29th April 2023, 20 days after the accident.[4]

Aircraft[edit]

The airplane was a Boeing 737-8AS that was produced in Renton and delivered to Ryanair on 29th March 2005. The airplane was registered EI-DHH right as Ryanair got it. The airplane was converted to a Boeing 737-8AS(WL) when the winglets were added on December 2006.( '(WL)' stands for 'Winglets'.) The airplane has two CFMI CFM56-7B26 engines.[5]

Accident[edit]

Upon touchdown at Dublin Airport, the tire of the aircraft failed, causing concern among passengers and airport personnel. However, thanks to the well-trained crew and the robust safety procedures in place, the situation was swiftly brought under control.[2]

Emergency services were deployed to the scene as a precautionary measure[6], though the aircraft came to a safe stop on the runway. Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft using standard procedures, guided by the experienced flight attendants. [3]

Investigation[edit]

The investigation was performed by the AAIU.[4]The cause of the blow was either undetermined, or not published.
