Forest City Hospital was the first interracial hospital for doctors in Cleveland, Ohio. With the support from the Cleveland Hospital Fund Forest City Hospital Association opened the hospital in 1957 in the Glenville, Cleveland. The hospital faced many challenges due to being an interracial hospital. Forest City Hospital offered many services including medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics. Despite its many services the hospital suffered due to its locations being predominantly African American. A decade after the hospital opened a campaign was launched to renovate and increase beds, but by 1970 admissions had declined. Losing patients caused the hospital to focus on out-patient care, but as the admissions continued to decline the black doctors found other hospitals in Cleveland to work. Due to lack of patients and employees the hospital was forced to close in 1978.
