Possible category scope change[edit]

@Marcocapelle: Would you be opposed to possibly moving this category to just "People in the Books of Maccabees" or "Books of Maccabees people"? I think "Seleucid" is misleading and hard to parse since, in theory, many of the rebels themselves were technically members of the Seleucid Empire, and there isn't really a clean breaking point similar to the 1783 Treaty of Paris where the Hasmonean Kingdom became properly separate / independent from the Seleucid Empire. Technically, Judas Maccabeus died before independence was gained, after all. There's a few shady inclusions like Ptolemy son of Abubus, too - he's certainly a VILLAIN in the Book of Maccabees, but he seems to be a Hasmonean official not a Seleucid one (or, to the extent he's a Seleucid official, John Hyrcanus is one too under some suzerain status). But a category definition like "Villains in the Books of Maccabees" would seem not great. Any objection to just making a single category for everyone mentioned, which has very clear inclusion criteria at least? SnowFire (talk) 17:40, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @SnowFire: what you are saying makes perfect sense. I cannot recall why 6 years ago I created this category the way I did. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:58, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
