Thomas More[edit]

It is unclear if More should really be counted as an alum of school. As James McConica notes, "More may [emphasis mine] have spent some of his time [at Oxford, early 1490s] at Magdalen College School, then outstanding for reform of grammar teaching in England... the link would have been John Holt, schoolmaster to the boys in [Archbishop John] Morton's household at Lambeth Palace in 1495, and a sometime mater at Magdalen College School as well." More had already gained a pre-university education at St. Anthony's School in London and, during his time at Oxford, was an undergraduate at St. Mary's or Canterbury College. If More did conduct any study at Magdalen College School, which is not an established fact, it would have been through private tutoring with the master and not as an enrolled student. This connection to MCS is perhaps not strong enough to consider More an Old Waynflete. See George M. Logan (Ed), The Cambridge Companion to Thomas More, Cambridge University Press (2011), pp 25-26. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8805:3B00:EA:515E:D2F9:9B1E:7844 (talk) 18:39, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
