Thanks, and no worries on C1. I created the subcats mainly because domestic league categories (such as this one) were previously scattered between Category:Association football players by competition (mixed with various multinational competitions) and the country subcats of Category:Association football players by competition by country. The result was inconsistent and difficult to navigate, so I expanded the preexisting country scheme, which already had 60+ categories.
A league category should not be placed directly in Category:Association football players by competition by country (after all, a league is not a country, and not all leagues' names identify the country), so the only alternative would be to shift these domestic league categories back into Category:Association football players by competition, which does not help navigation. As far the problem of low membership, underpopulated categories can be acceptable when they are needed to complete a defined set (as in the case of by-country categories), and moreover nearly every country's category has room for growth as new categories are created for other competitions. -- Black Falcon(talk) 17:52, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
