Regarding [1],[2] and [3], why remove these categories? – Joe (talk) 08:24, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Joe Roe: See WP:SUBCAT: ...pages for sub-categories should be categorised under the most specific parent categories possible
Category:New Zealand anthropologists and Category:New Zealand historians are both subcategories of Category:New Zealand archaeologists. So the IP's edits are absolutely correct in removing not only Category:New Zealand anthropologists, but also its parent Category:New Zealand people by occupation which is even further up the tree.--DB1729talk 15:40, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Backing down a bit from my comment. Actually looks like Category:New Zealand archaeologists is currently subcatted under historians and anthropologists. I stated it was the other way around. Makes more sense. So currently for example, Category:New Zealand people by occupation should be removed from Category:New Zealand archaeologists, per WP:SUBCAT. Still all this is assuming those are correct subcategorizations. Another way to do it is have all three: anthropologists, historians and archaeologists all in Category:New Zealand people by occupation, with no subcatting. --DB1729talk 16:05, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
They aren't correct, or at least they shouldn't be diffusing. Anthropology, history, and archaeology are overlapping but distinct fields. – Joe (talk) 07:16, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. I've fixed accordingly. DB1729talk 10:53, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
