Depopulation[edit]

  • Is this category about the places which have fewer population now, or now has Turkish population instead of Greeks, or now uninhabited? Since it is added to the category of "former populated places", they must be uninhabited now. Please clarify this issue. --Seksen iki yüz kırk beş (talk) 15:18, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You make it sound as there was no Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. This was not a cuddly event.  Nipsonanomhmata  (Talk) 12:28, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is not the answer to my question. --Seksen iki yüz kırk beş (talk) 12:33, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is about villages that had a predominant Greek Cypriot population prior to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. They are not uninhabited now. These villages now have Turkish names to cover up the fact that they always had Greek names.  Nipsonanomhmata  (Talk) 15:50, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Reminding that most Turkish names existed before 1974, I ignore it. It seems like you have not had a look at the article. Most of them are still populated, and if this category is about the abandoned villages, then it should be renamed. --Seksen iki yüz kırk beş (talk) 17:02, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This cat is for villages which resulted in a significant population shift out of the village in result of the turkish occupation. If they have been repopulated since is not of consequence. Chesdovi (talk) 21:45, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Anyway, if they have been depopulated in result of the war, it is more accurate to say "after 1974..." And please be careful when adding pages to this category, T/C villages or villages which had had a significant Turkish minority majority before 1974 should not be added to this category. --Seksen iki yüz kırk beş (talk) 19:47, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You mean majority.  Nipsonanomhmata  (Talk) 22:08, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes, just a careless mistake. But anyway, villages which have (nearly) 50% of their population Turkish are not Greek villages . --Seksen iki yüz kırk beş (talk) 13:09, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Like Agios Amvrosios which had a 100% Greek Cypriot population.  Nipsonanomhmata  (Talk) 13:35, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And like Elia (Doğancı) which had a 100% Turkish Cypriot population. --Seksen iki yüz kırk beş (talk) 13:56, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Irrelevant to this category.  Nipsonanomhmata  (Talk) 17:05, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
