I agree that in some cases I have applied a rather broad definition of sports car. Some are defined as sports cars in the article, but I don't quite agree with it. For instance the Renault Fuego. Other are more obvious sports car. // Liftarn
Front wheel drive has been used in some sports cars (usually in their own classes in rally races, almost definitely as a starter's class) but it's definitely the worst of the 3 options (A, R, and F) because of some fundamental flaws. The choice of front-wheel drive is unusual for a sports car, but according to Lotus Elan sales literature, "for a given vehicle weight, power and tyre size, a front wheel drive car was always faster over a given section of road. There were definite advantages in traction and controllability, and drawbacks such as torque steer, bump steer and steering kickback were not insurmountable."
