Is the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia a former country in Europe, as its name says?

No - it is the republic of Macedonia that was formerly part of Yugoslavia. It is not simply called "Macedonia" because of the trouble that would raise with other countries (particularly with Greece) - 52 Pickup 09:56, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Surely these should be included - even if never formally a state? Jackiespeel 17:35, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I too think the Free State of Trieste should be included. Interestingly, according to some people the country still formally exists, as the peace agreement was never changed and Italy and Jugoslavia simply made their administration of the area permanent. 74.132.200.129 22:37, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This one should also be included.

Why is Ireland included in the "British Isles" ? This is a very contentious issue bordering on racist attitudes by certain people who look on Irish people as inferior. Do you include Poland under the German Reich? Then please do not put Ireland under "British Isles" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.133.189 (talk) 02:06, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do not add non-articles[edit]

I have just cleaned out about eighty redirects, with a few talk and user pages that had been categorized here. Even so Former countries in Europe still contains more than 550 articles and 40 subcategories and is in need of diffusion. Any non-articles categorized here will be removed. -- Domino theory (talk) 13:02, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Union between Sweden and Norway[edit]

The personal union between these two kingdoms was not one state nor one country. This entity should be deleted from the category Former countries in Europe. How does one do that? Roede (talk) 13:40, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
